Job description

School District No. 42 (SD42) serves approximately 17,000 students in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, emphasizing student learning and growth. With an annual budget of over $200M and more than 2000 staff, the district offers K-12 education across 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternative schools. It also provides certificate programs and lifelong learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is seeking a qualified Elementary Support Teacher for a 1.0 FTE Temporary position at Laity View Elementary School. The position is effective from September 1, 2025, to December 12, 2025, or until the return of the incumbent. Candidates must be willing to undergo prescreening by Learning Services. Applicants should demonstrate strong collaboration skills, interpersonal abilities, and proficiency in French communication.

Qualifications include:

  • Certification with the Teacher Regulation Branch
  • Proficiency in written and verbal French communication
  • Successful teaching experience, especially in special education, including assessment, curriculum adaptation, and teaching students with special needs
  • A Degree or Diploma in special education is preferred, along with coursework in behavior, learning disabilities, or related areas, and experience working with students with special needs
  • Ability to design, adapt, and modify curriculum; develop and evaluate positive behavior support plans and IEPs; conduct assessments (including Level B tests); teach functional life skills; utilize technology to support student needs; and coordinate with Education Assistants
