Job summary

DropLab Inc. is seeking a hands-on Electronics Technician to join our hardware team. You will bring prototype PCBs from bare boards to fully functional units and rework small-form-factor components with precision.

You will work closely with hardware engineers to debug designs, run power sequencing tests, and ensure high-quality assembly under IPC standards. This role directly accelerates hardware development velocity and prototype testing.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years hands-on experience in electronics rework or prototype assembly.
  • Proven ability to hand-solder 0201 passives and fine-pitch ICs.
  • Experience with BGA rework including removal, balling, and reattachment.
  • Strong knowledge of test equipment: oscilloscopes, DMMs, bench power supplies, logic analyzers.
  • Ability to read schematics, PCB layouts, and assembly drawings.
  • Able to work independently and communicate findings to engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform board bring-up on new PCB designs, including power sequencing verification, voltage rail checks, signal integrity validation, and initial functional testing.
  • Hand-solder, rework, and replace small and fine-pitch components including 0201 passives, QFN, DFN, LGA, and BGA packages.
  • Execute BGA rework using hot air, IR, or reflow rework stations — including site preparation, reballing, alignment, and post-rework inspection.
  • Diagnose hardware faults at the board level using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, thermal cameras.
  • Work directly with hardware engineers to debug new designs, identify root causes of failures, and recommend design or assembly improvements.
  • Modify prototype boards per ECO instructions, including microscope-level trace cuts, jumper wires, and component substitutions.
  • Document rework procedures, bring-up checklists, and failure analysis findings.
  • Maintain ESD-safe workstations and ensure all work conforms to IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 standards.

DropLab’s technologies enable higher speed, precision, control, and productivity while reducing operating costs. Team members collaborate across disciplines to translate complex scientific needs into practical, scalable hardware solutions.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on Electronics Technician to join our hardware team, focused on prototype board bring-up and precision rework of fine-pitch and small-form-factor components. You'll be the person who takes a freshly fabricated PCB from bare board to fully functional unit, and the go-to expert for soldering components most people can barely see without magnification. This is a critical role that directly impacts hardware development velocity — your work unblocks engineers and gets prototypes into testing faster.

What You'll Do
  • Perform board bring-up on new PCB designs, including power sequencing verification, voltage rail checks, signal integrity validation, and initial functional testing
  • Hand-solder, rework, and replace small and fine-pitch components including 0201 passives, QFN, DFN, LGA, and BGA packages
  • Execute BGA rework using hot air, IR, or reflow rework stations — including site preparation, reballing, alignment, and post-rework inspection

  • Document rework procedures, bring-up checklists, and failure analysis findings
  • Maintain ESD-safe workstations and ensure all work conforms to IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 standards
What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in electronics rework, prototype assembly, or board-level repair
  • Demonstrated ability to hand-solder 0201 passives and fine-pitch ICs reliably
  • Proven BGA rework experience, including removal, site cleanup, reballing, and reattachment with verified yield
  • Strong working knowledge of test equipment: oscilloscopes, DMMs, bench power supplies, logic analyzers
  • Ability to read schematics, PCB layouts, and assembly drawings
  • Comfortable working independently on ambiguous problems and communicating findings to engineers
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with high-speed digital, RF, or mixed-signal designs
  • Scripting or basic programming (Python, shell) for test automation
  • Experience supporting low-volume production or NPI environments
