Job Description: Electronics Technician

The Electronics Technician performs tasks related to electrical control and instrumentation systems, including electronics, programmable controllers, telecommunications, transmitters, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. They are responsible for all electrical and electronic instrumentation equipment related to drilling operations, including circulating, rotating, hoisting, and well control systems. Additionally, they upload maintenance and repair data into the Maintenance Management System (MMS).

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide leadership with a Total Ownership attitude.
  2. Enforce and follow company and client policies, standards, and procedures.
  3. Support HSE objectives related to safety and environmental protection.
  4. Promote operational excellence through procedural discipline.
  5. Supervise safety and morale within the crew.
  6. Ensure compliance with authorized operation and competency standards.
  7. Follow LO/TO and Permit to Work procedures.
  8. Administer software for data logging and control systems, including management of change and version controls.
  9. Read and analyze drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  10. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical/electronic equipment.
  11. Coordinate with maintenance leads and enter data into SAP MMS.
  12. Monitor spare parts and communicate re-order requirements.
  13. Repair or replace defective parts and troubleshoot equipment.
  14. Respond to emergencies and coordinate onsite repair activities.
  15. Conduct wire splicing, test circuit connections, and assist with high/low voltage equipment maintenance.
  16. Submit requisitions and perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma required.
  • Canadian Inter-Provincial Journeyman's Certificate (Instrumentation) or Diploma in Instrumentation Technology.
  • At least 3 years of experience maintaining instrumentation and electrical equipment.
  • Experience with PLCs, electronics, calibration, hydraulics, pneumatics, or oil and gas process equipment.
  • Current certifications and licenses necessary for the role, including offshore or onshore certifications.
  • Knowledge of drilling control systems, power control, hoisting and rotating systems, circulating systems, and PLC systems like Siemens Step 7.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, hand and power tools, and math skills for instrumentation certification.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; SAP and MM experience is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with good prioritization skills and ability to work independently.
