Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada is seeking an Electronics Technician in Richmond, BC to maintain the Canada Line transit systems, including Automatic Train Control, rail communications, SCADA, fiber optic, CCTV, and security systems. This fixed-term contract supports preventive, corrective, and commissioning work with a focus on safety and reliability.

The role requires a 2-year technical degree in electronics or related fields, 4+ years in relevant maintenance, and ability to work shifts in a 24/7

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-year post secondary technical degree in electronics, communications or related discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in maintaining electronics or communications equipment or similar systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Must hold a BC Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Strong experience with computer equipment, networking diagnostic software and IT tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and modification maintenance on Automatic Train Control and Rail Communication systems and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and restore systems to service while following safety procedures and standards.
  • Respond to first-line maintenance incidents involving train control and electronic systems.
  • Complete maintenance documentation, inspection records, reports and asset certification activities.
  • Prioritize maintenance activities based on operational and safety risks to support continuous transit service.

As an Electronics Technician based in Richmond, BC, you will play a key role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of the Canada Line transit system. Working alongside a skilled team of technicians, you will support advanced Automatic Train Control, rail communications, networking, SCADA, fiber optic, CCTV, security, and public information systems through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and commissioning activities. Your expertise will help ensure uninterrupted transit operations, support the implementation of system improvements, and contribute to delivering a safe and efficient transportation service for the communities we serve. Please note: This is a fixed-term contract position with an anticipated duration of approximately three (3) months, starting as soon as possible and ending on January 11, 2027. Location - Richmond, BC.

Your role

The responsibilities listed below are representative of the position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list. The Electronics Technician will perform all duties and responsibilities as outlined in the ProtransBC Electronics Technician Job Description.

  • Perform preventative, corrective, and modification maintenance on Automatic Train Control and Rail Communication systems and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and restore systems to service efficiently while following established safety procedures and technical standards.
  • Respond to first-line maintenance incidents involving train control and electronic systems.
  • Complete maintenance documentation, inspection records, reports, and asset certification activities.
  • Prioritize maintenance activities based on operational and safety risks to support continuous transit service.
  • Support the installation, testing, commissioning, and performance improvement of new and existing electronic systems.
  • Inspect contractor and supplier work and contribute to initiatives that improve asset reliability, performance, and maintenance efficiency.
About you
  • Minimum 2-year Post Secondary technical degree in electronics, communications disciplines, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in maintaining electronic or communications equipment or similar systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and receive dispatches by radio.
  • A current BC Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Strong experience with computer equipment, networking diagnostic software and IT tools.
  • Ability to work off site, travel to stations, work in elevated rail guideway and tunnel, climb ladders, work from height, operate a man-lift and access confined space.
  • This position requires shift work (nights, weekends and holidays) for continuous operation based on 24/7 environment. Shifts will be awarded in accordance to the collective agreement shift bid process.
Hourly training Rate

Rate $49.52 /Hourly

Fully-qualified Rate of Pay $58.27 / Hour
