QAI Laboratories is a Professional Test Laboratory located in Burnaby, British Columbia that provides electromagnetic compatibility testing services to local technology companies. Products that we test come from a range of industries such as telecommunication, IT, industrial, transportation, military, and others. The QAI name is well recognized throughout the local high‑tech market resulting in steady growth of the EMC testing business.

Duties
  • Perform testing and evaluation of various electronic products to nationally recognized EMC standards (IEC, EN, FCC, etc.).
  • Conduct compliance testing in various areas, including EMC, Radio, Military, and Automotive, within the EMC Department.
  • Analyze test data using relevant equipment (such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, RF amplifiers, chart recorders, etc.).
  • Write and review concise, objective, and informative test reports and evaluation checklists; work with mentor until "qualified" to work independently.
  • Learn and become more proficient in the standards relevant to the subject areas.
  • Conduct inspections and field evaluations at remote client sites.
  • Manage projects of varying complexity, including editing and reviewing certification reports and related documentation.
  • Independently conduct internal and external audits (ISO 17065, 17025, 17020) for various programs and serve as a liaison for audits.
  • Provide sales support for projects of all complexity, actively quoting and leading client meetings.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects, conflicting timelines, and changing priorities.
  • Work within a team to resolve technical issues and determine the appropriate interpretation of technical requirements; produce necessary documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with the QAI quality system and administrative procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices, prioritizing safety and use PPE as required.
  • Actively mentor and coach junior staff as a regular part of their role.
  • Communicate effectively with internal team and clients (willingness to travel as needed).
  • Collaborate as part of an energetic team with a can‑do attitude.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee.
Qualifications
  • At minimum, completed a two‑year engineering diploma or degree in electrical/electronic or a related field.
  • Must be able to work without supervision in a specific technical area.
  • Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical EMC standards toward product testing programs.
  • Possess “Good Laboratory Practice” skills essential for testing products.
  • Possess strong analytical skills.
  • Possess good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Possess the ability to work effectively within the team while under tight deadlines.
  • Possess superior MS Word and Excel skills and be proficient with email correspondence.

  • Able to grasp general concepts in the field of testing and apply them to specific test methods.
  • Able to perform testing and progress to more complex methods as knowledge in the field grows.
  • Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of general scope of knowledge and experience.
  • Good working knowledge of the test methods in the specific discipline.
  • Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside the general scope of knowledge.
  • Able to multi‑task with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Able to coordinate projects across departments or the organization to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned.

  • Candidates must hold a valid BC driver’s license.
  • Candidates must be open to working extended hours during peak service demands.
