Job Title: Project Specialist

Location: Burnaby, BC

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and lead fire resistance, firestop, door assembly, exterior wall, and non‑combustibility testing in accordance with CAN/ULC S101, S104, S114, S115, S134, and UL 10B/10C standards.
  • Lead the setup, fabrication, and construction of test assemblies, ensuring technical accuracy, structural integrity, and adherence to drawings, specifications, and test standards.
  • Conduct unsupervised testing, data analysis, and technical reporting with a high level of accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during setup and testing, applying expert interpretation of standards and procedures to ensure correct methodology and valid results.
  • Support internal and external audits and maintain full compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS), ISO requirements, and established safety procedures.
  • Provide technical support in sales, quoting, and client meetings.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and productivity targets are consistently met.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff while supporting client communication, project coordination, and technical discussions as required.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment while actively contributing to continuous improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee.
Qualifications
  • Technical diploma, degree, or equivalent experience in the field.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in construction, fabrication, or laboratory testing environments (fire testing experience considered an asset).
  • Experience in construction / laboratory instrumentation / data acquisition / operating principles / calibration & general laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and test standards.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail and build accuracy.
  • Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and performing manual work in a lab/shop environment.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a technical team.
  • Basic understanding of quality procedures and HR policies.
  • Understanding of workplace safety practices and experience working in regulated environments.
  • Familiar with MS Office and other software relevant to the position.
Additional Information
  • Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license.
Additional Assets
  • Previous experience with construction materials and building code compliance practices in the US and Canada.
