Job summary

SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified Electrical Technician to join our team. The role covers design recommendations, material procurement, project leadership, installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of corporate facilities, following industry standards and safety rules.

Responsibilities include leading on-site electricians and contractors, supervising maintenance during plant shutdowns, and ensuring quality and safety across projects.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Electrician Certificate.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license (copy must accompany job applications).

  • Lead and coordinate on-site construction contractors and perform electrical duties for installation, calibration, inspection, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Perform and oversee maintenance and inspection during major plant shutdowns, adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Provide advice on electrical safety and mentorship to staff, including apprentices.
  • Oversee tendered electrical/instrumentation installation contracts for compliance and cost accuracy.
  • Stay current with Canadian Electrical Code and input into design and layout specifications.

Education

Grade 12 or equivalent
Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Electrician Certificate
Valid class 5 driver’s license

Job description

SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Electrical Technician performs a variety of duties related to design recommendations, material procurement, project leadership, installation, project safety, commissioning, maintenance and repair of Corporate facilities, in accordance with standards, specifications and accepted industry practices.

Position Details

Core Responsibilities
Installation Services and Maintenance
  • Lead and coordinate on-site construction contractors and perform electrical duties for the installation, calibration, inspection, testing, commissioning, maintenance, trouble-shooting, alteration, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment to meet Corporate, safety and environmental standards, specifications, rules and regulations.

  • Perform and oversee the maintenance and inspection of electrical equipment during major plant shutdowns or other electrical maintenance activities, adhering to specific safety guidelines and precautions.

  • Provide advice and recommendations to co-workers and others on electrical safety.

  • Provide on site quality assurance of tendered electrical and instrumentation installation contracts to ensure adherence to specifications and to verify any extra construction claims.

  • Make changes to control programs in conjunction with the automation group.

  • Procure materials and maintain tools for use on site with respect to the installation, maintenance, alteration and repair of related equipment.

  • Provide technical support and mentorship in relation to electrical equipment to other staff and provide input to optimize system operations.

  • Provide input into design, installation and layout specifications with consideration for future operation and maintenance activities.

  • Participate in the assessment of new technology and resources.

Administration, Scheduling and Training
  • Complete work as scheduled in work management system, updating daily the completion status and attachments.

  • Coordinate work activities as per work management system schedules with co-workers and contractors to ensure minimum interference to plant and system operation.

  • Coordinate with key stakeholders (e.g. supervisors, customers and utilities) to ensure scheduled work meets Corporate, safety and environmental standards, specifications, rules and regulations.

  • Maintain operating records and work order attachments in accordance with procedures for:

    • Administration of time allocations to projects and work orders.

    • Field changes to drawings, manuals and software.

    • Apparatus and equipment records.

    • Unit Calibration records.

    • Quality Control records.

    • Reporting on work activities.

  • Design, assess, implement and adhere to preventative and predictive maintenance programs as provided in PM task packages and work orders.

  • Identify material and repair parts required for work assignments and acquire as needed in accordance with purchasing procedures.

  • As the qualified incumbent, oversee the work of other employees and contractors as assigned to ensure work is performed in accordance with instructions, standards and specifications. This includes training and mentoring apprentice personnel.

  • Stay current with new technology as it is introduced for use in new designs and stay current with revisions to the Canadian Electrical Code.

Qualifications
Education
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Electrician Certificate.

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license (copy must accompany job applications).

  • Depending on location, standby is routinely scheduled or occasional.

  • This job is subject to callout situations.

  • Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required on occasion.

  • This job requires significant travel time.

  • This job requires extended work hours.
