Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools

Electrician

We are seeking skilled and experienced Electricians to join our school district’s maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems across our schools and facilities. Your expertise in electrical systems will help ensure a safe, efficient, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors.

The ideal candidate will have experience troubleshooting electrical issues, working with low- and high-voltage systems, and ensuring compliance with safety codes and district regulations. Knowledge and experience with fire alarms and security alarms is an asset. A strong background in commercial electrical work is essential, as our schools require complex electrical infrastructure to support classrooms, administrative offices, and specialized facilities.

Assignments - Multiple: Full time, work is primarily afternoon shift while school is in session, and day shift on scheduled school breaks or on certain project-based work. Hours are 2:30 PM - 10:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

Wage: $36.78 per hr. with a competitive benefit and wage package.

Your work

  • Upgrades and modifies existing electrical distribution systems and installs new systems as required.
  • Repairs, alters, installs and systematically maintains electronic and micro processor-driven systems such as fire alarm, security alarm, lighting and control system and conducts periodic testing, reporting as required.
  • Installs computer network wiring.
  • Installs and maintains motors, motorized equipment and associated controls, power tools, appliances and other electrical equipment.
  • Installs and maintains electrical heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and the power and control aspects of other HVAC systems.
  • Designs projects, reads and interprets drawings and specifications and prepares cost estimates.
  • Directs, assists and liaises with employees, contractors, regulatory agencies and other trades, as required.
  • May on occasion be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Your Education and Experience

  • High school graduation or the equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an interprovincial Apprenticeship Program and a valid Provincial/Interprovincial Red Seal Trade Certification for Electrician.
  • Two years related experience at the journeyman level.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Physical capability to perform the job duties.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Competent in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this trade.
