Job summary

CST Canada Coal Limited is seeking a Certified Electrician for maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems at our Grande Cache site. The role supports mobile and stationary equipment, requiring adherence to safety, environmental, and cost guidelines.

You will read schematics and codes, install and repair wiring, switchgear, motors, and instrumentation while maintaining records and ensuring reliable plant operation.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Industrial Electrician with Alberta trade certification or equivalent is required.
• First Aid CPR is an asset.
• Experience in surface mining mobile equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
• Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components.
• Test electrical and electronic equipment for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
• Maintain, repair, test and install switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, and reactors.
• Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, and industrial storage batteries.
• Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical, and electronic control systems.
• Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.
• May install, maintain, and calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices.

Electricians are responsible for performing planned and breakdown maintenance/repair/installations to mobile and stationery equipment or facilities, ensuring that all work is completed in a safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective manner as determined by the established requirements of the applicable trade.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Certified Electrician is directly accountable to the applicable Electrical Foreman. He/she may be required to supervise and report on an apprentice from time to time.

Qualifications

Education

Journeyman Industrial Electrician, as defined by Apprenticeship & Industry Training, Government of Alberta, a trade certificate issued in Alberta, a recognized trade certificate or an Alberta equivalency document is required in the applicable trade in which the employee is working.

A current St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR is an asset.

Experience

• Extensive experience relevant to the surface mining mobile equipment in a coal mining environment is preferred.
• A minimum of 1-year industrial experience working on equipment or installations relevant to the area of employment.

Physical Requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent works at the CST Coal Mine Site in Grande Cache on a 7 day-on/7 day-off rotation that includes working weekends and holidays. The 12-hour daily schedule may include both day and evening shifts. Some overtime and being on standby or ready for “call outs” may be required due to the nature of the work. He/she is in an outdoor setting 95% of the time and in an office or shop setting 5% of the time and liaises with other employees, contractors, and senior mining personnel. The nature of the work requires being exposed to fumes, odors or chemicals in emergent situations, dangerous physical hazards such as moving machinery, and loud and continuous noise levels that require ear protection. As a condition of employment, the incumbent is required to comply with pre-employment drug/alcohol and medical testing as per established policy. As required, personal protective equipment will include the use of an approved hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection, approved respiratory protection, clothing, and gloves.
