Job Description

The Electrician position, under limited direction, installs, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial electrical equipment and associated electrical and electronic controls. The role involves interpreting architectural drawings and electrical code specifications, forming and testing electrical circuits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. The electrician will also ensure proper functioning and illumination of electrical equipment, working on systems such as electrical transmission lines, motors, generators, and distribution and plant equipment.

Performance Expectations

  • Oversee inspections of electrical systems to ensure compliance with Ontario Electrical Standards Act.
  • Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fibre-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components as needed.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Update and log electrical changes.
  • Maintain needed spares and purchase materials cost-effectively.
  • Evaluate power requirements for new equipment and connect according to the Ontario Electrical Code.
  • Complete interface to CNC equipment.
  • Coordinate with plant services and contractors as needed.
  • Train and supervise electrical employees ensuring standards are met.
  • Interpret information from pre-maintenance work orders to determine necessary work.
  • Take measurements using high voltage testing equipment.

Credentials

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications.
  • Technical school training and completion of an apprenticeship program.
  • Licensed electrician (309A).
  • Minimum two years of related experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment based on schematic drawings.
  • Knowledge of phone systems, network cabling, security, door access, and video surveillance systems is an asset.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Travel may be required between Guelph facilities.

  • Receive in-house safety training and maintain certifications such as WHMIS, TDG, First Aid, and CPR.
