Electrical Technologist - Puerto Rico - 3 weeks on-2 off, Testing & Commissioning

PHASOR Engineering Inc. is a dynamic Alberta-based company specializing in engineering, design, and testing / commissioning of medium to high voltage electrical facilities. Focused on providing cost-effective and efficient power system engineering solutions, we engage in diverse projects from preliminary engineering to commissioning and startup.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineering Technologist, PSE, or Engineer to join our field services team on a full-time basis in Puerto Rico at our client site. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, skilled problem-solver, with strong attention to detail, working in a dynamic environment involving testing and commissioning processes.

Responsibilities :
  1. Testing and commissioning of MV / HV power system protection & control schemes across utility, power generation, and oil & gas industries
  2. Reading and interpreting drawings, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues
  3. Training and developing employees to meet high performance standards
  4. Preparing and submitting reports
  5. Assisting with generation of commissioning startup procedures or work instructions
  6. Ensuring compliance with safety practices per corporate, client, and industry standards
  7. Responding to customer inquiries, discussing trouble details, and confirming resolutions
Qualifications :
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Electrician Journeyman Ticket, or an Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma from a recognized institute
  2. Eligible for registration with APEGGA, ASET, or similar
  3. Understanding of electrical power system protection and controls including SCADA, relay protection, metering, equipment functionalities, and telecom networks
  4. Minimum 5+ years of proven experience in medium voltage and/or high voltage utility substations and power generation, with supervisory project leadership experience
  5. Relay testing experience of microprocessor-based protection IEDs (SEL, ABB, Siemens, GE) with automated test equipment (Omicron CMC356)
  6. Experience in high voltage primary equipment testing and commissioning (power transformers, reactors, circuit breakers, CTs, PTs, surge arrestors, disconnect switches, capacitor and reactor banks)
  7. Testing and commissioning according to NETA / IEEE / IEC standards
  8. Knowledge of CSA Z462 safety standards
  9. Strong interpersonal, communication skills, and attention to detail
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong computer skills
  11. Excellent organizational, analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving skills
  12. NETA Testing Certification is an asset
  13. Background checks and drug/alcohol testing required
Additional Information :
  1. Typical shifts are 28 days on, 14 days off, generally from 7am to 5:30pm
  2. Work hours are subject to change based on project needs; flexibility required
