Brief Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented
Electrical Engineer to join our team with a focus on
Power System Studies, including
Arc Flash Hazard Analysis,
Coordination Studies,
Short Circuit Analysis, and related activities. This role requires strong analytical skills, deep understanding of electrical power systems, and proficiency with industry-standard software to ensure the safety, reliability, and compliance of electrical systems across a variety of projects.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct Electrical System Studies including:
- Arc Flash Hazard Analysis per CSA Z462 / IEEE 1584
- Protective Device Coordination Studies
- Short Circuit Analysis per ANSI / IEEE / IEC standards
- Load Flow and Voltage Drop Calculations
- Power Factor Correction
- Perform Data Collection & Site Audits for existing facilities (industrial, commercial, and utility environments) to gather necessary electrical system information.
- Model Electrical Power Systems using software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or similar.
- Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE, NFPA 70E, NEC, IEC).
- Develop Reports and Deliverables:
- Write clear and concise technical reports summarizing study results and recommendations.
- Produce single-line diagrams and electrical system documentation.
- Generate arc flash labels and coordinate their application.
- Interface with Clients and Project Teams to gather requirements, present findings, and provide technical support.
- Support Design and Project Engineering Teams with study results that inform equipment specification and protective device settings.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and technologists in study methods, analysis, and report development.
- Participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance of all deliverables.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Registered as EIT
- Registered (or eligible) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) an asset
- Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in electrical power systems and studies.
- Strong understanding of power system fundamentals and protective relaying.
- Proficient in ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or equivalent software tools.
- Familiarity with CSA Z462, IEEE 1584, IEEE C37, and applicable utility standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working in industrial, utility, or commercial environments is considered an asset.
Preferred Attributes
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or electrical drafting software.
- Motor Starting Studies and Grounding System Analysis an asset.
- Strong understanding of fault analysis in power system modelling software and ensuring quality results of such software, primarily in SKM, ETAP, and Easypower in that order of preference.
- Field experience with electrical testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
