Overall Responsibilities:
- Inspect, test, and photograph products for conformity assessment with international and national regulations, resulting in Certificates, Test Reports, and/or Technical Reports for clients.
- Prepare reports and documentation of customer products according to relevant standards.
- Support sales and marketing with expertise, including customer presentations.
- Communicate with customers and Product Safety Agencies such as UL, CSA, and VDE regarding Product Design Approaches for Safety, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain courteous and effective communication with internal and external customers, including providing quotes, answering questions, relaying messages, and sharing information about standards and test procedures to ensure product compliance. Maintain confidentiality of customer and testing information.
- Stay updated on current and future Product Safety requirements, test procedures, instrumentation, technology, and TÜV America’s engineering capabilities through training, seminars, and technical reading.
- Validate client requirements, which may involve site visits.
- Assist customers and staff during safety testing programs.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement projects.
- Operate within the controls of an ISO 17025 Quality System.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with MS Office suite: Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of product safety experience.
- Knowledge of Word for Windows and Excel.
- Strong communication skills—verbal, written, and listening.
- Ability to plan, organize, and pay attention to detail.
- Reliable judgment, adaptability, and a common-sense approach.
- Motivation, initiative, and commitment to self-improvement.
- Willingness to work collaboratively and consider others’ ideas.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Good knowledge of CB and NRTL safety testing and certification requirements.
- Basic to good knowledge of standards such as IEC, UL, CSA 61010-1, 62368-1, etc.
Education & Experience:
- BS degree in an engineering discipline or diploma with relevant experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in safety testing and certification, specifically in electrical engineering compliance.
Additional Information:
This job involves using safety lab equipment and performing product setup and testing activities, including lifting and manipulating equipment up to 25 kg.
