Are you a certified Electrical Safety Codes Officer looking to make an impact in your community? In this role, you will review plans, issue permits, conduct inspections, and ensure installations meet the requirements of the Safety Codes Act, associated regulations, and the Canadian Electrical Code. You'll also provide technical advice, evaluate alternative solutions, and help enforce compliance across a variety of building types and electrical systems.

Your key responsibilities
- Review plans and documentation for electrical permits to determine conformance with the Safety Codes Act, Regulations, and the Canadian Electrical Code (Part 1).
- Conduct on-site inspections of electrical installations at various stages to verify compliance, identify deficiencies, and address unsafe or unpermitted work.
- Follow up on deficiencies or hazards by verifying compliance through re-inspection or enforcement when needed.
- Assess alternative solutions and variance applications to ensure they meet the intent and safety standards of applicable codes.
- Investigate complaints, unsafe conditions, and unpermitted installations, issuing Orders where necessary.
- Support Fire Services in the investigation of fires related to electrical installations.
- Participate in joint inspections for issue resolution and occupancy permitting.
- Maintain detailed records of permits, inspections, correspondence, and variances.
- Provide technical guidance to applicants, contractors, and other clients to support code-compliant designs and installations.
- Prepare clear and accurate reports on inspections, plan reviews, and investigations.
What you bring
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Safety Codes Act, associated regulations, and the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1.
- Sound judgment and the ability to interpret and evaluate complex electrical designs.
- Strong investigative, enforcement, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build professional relationships and explain regulatory concepts in a clear and respectful manner.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to City-specific software.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or High School Equivalency.
- Journeyperson Electrician certification.
- Minimum 5 years related work experience.
- Electrical Safety Codes Officer certification (Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1) and willingness to maintain status as required by the Safety Codes Council.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License with an acceptable driving record.
- An equivalent combination of management approved education and experience may be considered.
This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
