Job summary

WORKFORCE - Staffing Solutions is seeking an Electrical Power & Controls Technician in Vancouver, BC. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical power distribution and control systems, including switchboards, transformers, generators, and drives.

You will also configure equipment via laptop and read complex schematics. This union role offers competitive wages of $58-70 CAD per hour and requires at least five years of experience, and a Red Seal Electrician or electrical

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical systems (power distribution and control).
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC power systems, circuit design, wiring diagrams, drives, PLCs and power electronics.
  • Experience with power generation: AC generators/paralleling synchronizing.
  • Troubleshooting and configuring power conversion equipment (drive converters), DC/DC, AC/DC, DC/AC.
  • Experience diagnosing faults with diagnostic tools (multimeters, scopes, data loggers, megger, DLRO).
  • Red Seal Electrician or degree in electrical & automation; eligible for Canadian government clearance.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to travel to Vancouver area for field work.
  • Available for after-hours calls and overtime.

  • Work at heights or in confined spaces as needed.

Job description

We are currently hiring for a Electrical Power & Controls Technician. Duties include the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical power distribution and control systems. We are looking for a candidate who can install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical power distribution systems, including switchboards, power converters (DC/AC, DC/DC), transformers, generators, and control systems. The role will involve maintenance and inspections of electrical systems. We are looking for someone capable of connecting and configuring equipment via laptop computer, a person who can read complex schematics. The hired candidate will diagnose and rectify electrical faults and failures using appropriate testing equipment and techniques. The hired person will work with team members and other technicians to develop and implement solutions for improving the performance and effectiveness of electrical systems. They will perform electrical system upgrades and modifications to meet customer requirements, and provide technical support and training to customers on the operation and maintenance of electrical systems. You must be able to maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and service history of assets. You should be physically fit and able to work at heights or in confined spaces as needed.

Required Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical systems (power distribution and control).
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC power systems, circuit design, wiring diagrams, AC/DC Drives, PLC’s, and power electronics.
  • Experience with power generation: AC generators/paralleling synchronizing
  • Background troubleshooting, setting up, and configuring power conversion equipment (drive converters), DC/DC, AC/DC, DC/AC
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical faults and using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power data logger, meggers and DLRO.
  • Red Seal Electrician or degree from a post-secondary in electrical & automation, or a combination of equivalent education, training, and/or experience.
  • Able to obtain government clearance in Canada (Canadian citizen, no criminal record)
  • Valid and clean driver’s license, no restrictions
  • Living in Vancouver, BC metro area with ability to perform field work and some regional travel
  • Available for some after hours calls and overtime
