Job description

Sky Eye Measurement is seeking an Intermediate Electrical & Instrumentation Designer to produce electrical and instrumentation deliverables for industrial, energy and facility projects. • Clear written and verbal communication with engineers, project managers, vendors and field personnel.

  • Commitment to safety in design and to the health and safety practices of the company and its clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Electrical Design
  • Develop single line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, schematics and elementary control diagrams for power distribution systems.

  • Produce hazardous area classification drawings in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and API RP 500/505.
  • Develop motor control centre and switchgear layouts, panel arrangements and wiring diagrams.
  • Prepare cable schedules, cable block diagrams, and perform cable sizing, voltage drop and conduit fill calculations.
  • Design lighting and receptacle systems, including lighting level calculations for indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Develop grounding and lightning protection layouts, heat trace layouts, and electrical installation details.
Instrumentation Design
  • Produce loop drawings, wiring diagrams, junction box termination details and marshalling cabinet layouts.
  • Prepare instrument location plans, hook‑up drawings and installation details for process, pneumatic and electrical connections.
  • Develop control panel and PLC/DCS cabinet layouts, including terminal strip and I/O card assignments.
  • Support instrument specification and selection in coordination with process and controls engineering.
Coordination & Interdisciplinary Work
  • Coordinate design with process, mechanical, piping, structural and civil disciplines to resolve interferences and interface issues.
  • Review piping and equipment models to confirm instrument locations, access and cable routing feasibility.
Quality, Standards & Documentation
  • Apply the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1), CSA and ULC standards, IEEE and ISA standards, and applicable provincial regulations.
  • Apply ISA 5.1 instrumentation symbology and tagging conventions consistently across project deliverables.
  • Check and self-check drawings for completeness, accuracy and adherence to project specifications prior to issue.
  • Check the work of junior designers and drafters, providing redlines, direction and technical mentorship.
  • Maintain drawing registers, revision control and squad‑check records in accordance with company and client document control procedures.
  • Produce as‑built markups and update deliverables to reflect final installed conditions.
Project Support
  • Prepare material take‑offs and bulk quantity estimates for cable, tray, conduit, fittings and instrumentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of company drafting standards, templates, symbol libraries and design procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Engineering Design & Drafting Technology or a related discipline.
  • Five to ten years of progressive electrical and instrumentation design experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, industrial, mining, power or a related heavy‑industrial sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to take an E&I package from P&ID through issued‑for‑construction with limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, hazardous area classification, and electrical equipment ratings and enclosure types.
  • Solid understanding of field instrumentation, transmitters, control valves, analyzers and their wiring and installation requirements.
  • Familiarity with PLC and DCS architectures, 4‑20 mA and HART signals, intrinsic safety barriers and fieldbus fundamentals.
Software & Technical Skills
