Job summary

TransAlta is seeking a talented Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join its Kingston generating station in Ontario. This full-time, salaried, on-site role provides technical leadership to support safe and efficient operation, including design reviews, bid evaluations, and technical specifications across the plant.

The ideal candidate has a recognized Electrical Engineering degree with P.Eng.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized institution with P.Eng. eligibility.
• 4–6 years of relevant experience in thermal/gas-fired power generation.
• Hands-on experience with switchgear/MCCs, motors, generators, transformers, power system analysis, protection and coordination, turbine control, DCS, PLCs, fire alarm systems, and SCADA.
• Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code; proficient in Microsoft Office and cloud-based software.
• Project management experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Undertake electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering projects for the generating fleet.
• Supervise and perform engineering and project management work.
• Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting electrical equipment issues.
• Research and analyze technical solutions for cost and performance.
• Interpret and apply industry standards and TransAlta best practices to ensure code compliance.
• Support major maintenance activities including turnarounds and outages.
• Lead project development activities including design reviews and bid evaluation.
• Assess, recruit, and manage consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
• Promote and reinforce TransAlta’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment policies.
• Provide support to other business areas as required.
