Duties

As An EGS Tech, You Will Be Employed To

  • Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mobile electrical generators and control equipment (10%) – including preventative maintenance checks on various generator sets.
  • Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair power plant electrical generators (40%) – including maintenance on static and portable generator sets.
  • Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair engine prime movers (10%) – including standby engine-driven water pumps.
  • Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair UPS systems (15%) – including regular maintenance on various UPS models.
  • Overhaul electrical generation systems and equipment (10%) – including control wiring and ancillary systems.
  • Produce designs and specifications (5%) – including industry research and technical advice.
  • Produce mechanical and electrical drawings (5%) – including drafting installation and cable layouts.
  • Perform brazing/welding and machining work (5%) – including workshop and field repairs.

Intent of the process

Create an inventory of candidates for current and future vacancies, including various tenures, linguistic profiles, and security requirements. Immediate need: 1 position in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Essential qualifications include:
- Journeyperson Certification in Mechanical or Electrical Trade, or Post-secondary training in Electrical Generation, or Canadian Forces Certification as Electrical Generator Systems Technician Level 5, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience in electrical generation, repair of engines and generators, understanding of AC/DC theory, and reading electrical schematics.

Additional qualifications and certifications such as First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, and Aerial Lift are assets.

Applicants must meet language, security, and physical requirements, and adhere to ethical standards. Conditions may include security clearance, driver’s license, physical demands, and travel.
