Qualifications

Job Description

The primary role of the Electrical Foreman is to direct the activities and tasks of the electrical underground and surface personnel to ensure that all electrical systems are installed, maintained, repaired and functioning according to project requirements and safety standards.

General

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all required electrical repairs, maintenance, testing, and installations are completed properly, i.e. to regulatory and company specifications, and on time
  • Ability to read/ interpret electrical drawings/ schematics
  • Organize and plan work for direct reports
  • Supervise, mentor and direct reports in their assignments
  • Apply disciplinary procedures as required
  • Enforce site and company policies
  • Determine equipment necessary (type and size of cables, wires, panel boards, safety switched, etc.) to perform tasks and requisition as needed
  • Ensure all direct reports are qualified and properly trained for assigned tasks
  • Communicate with cross-shifts to ensure continuity of assignments by maintaining and reading logs, meeting with peers and coordinating work
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality/safety standards
  • Redirect crew activities in response to unforeseen or unplanned developments
  • Support and communicate with project management team as required
  • Request and coordinate assistance from construction department as required to complete assigned tasks and maximizing productive time
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems and recommend/implement remedial actions
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage

Health And Safety

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
  • Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Journeyman Level Qualification (Industrial or Construction & Maintenance Electrician)
  • Master Electrician License an asset
  • Supervisory Common Core an asset

Work Experience

  • Required: 10 Years in an Industrial or Construction Electrician role with a minimum of 3 years in mining. Supervisory experience: minimum 2-3 years.
  • Preferred: Five years’ experience in supervisory role.

Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, electrical processes involved in underground mining development
  • Knowledge of design, installation and maintenance of the electrical equipment used in underground development areas (PLC’s, cable installation, work platforms, transformer installations, fans, pumps, etc.)
  • Ability to plan, schedule and monitor work for employees/crews
  • Experience in HV cable termination and splicing
  • Knowledge of rigging and slinging heavy components
  • Ability to understand work from blueprints, schematics, sketches, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in low, medium and high voltage installations
  • Knowledge of legislation and safety regulations pertaining to electrical work
  • Ability to mentor and encourage others
  • Computer literacy required working with spreadsheets, business systems (i.e. Oracle procurement), and email.
  • Ability to multi task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Respectful of cultural differences
