Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) is a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, specializing in transit and rail systems’ construction and maintenance across the US and Canada. MEC installs Overhead Contact Systems (OCS), Traction Power Substations (TPSS), Signaling and Train Control, Communications, and Control Centers.

Location

This role is based on a large transit rail project in Ottawa, ON.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret drawings and specifications for field crews and supervision.
  • Perform quantity calculations and measure completed work.
  • Assist in preparing work plans and packages.
  • Support field surveying, work layout, and compile as-built data.
  • Manage daily labor timesheets and safety analyses.
  • Participate in safety reviews, toolbox talks, and training.
  • Order and schedule materials.
  • Coordinate work groups and supervise field operations.
  • Perform material takeoffs and basic engineering calculations.
  • Assist project engineers with data collection and submittals.
  • Prepare purchase orders, maintain schedules, and keep project records.
  • Enter data into the cost system, review cost reports, and generate change orders.
  • Support subcontractor operations and review historical data for bids.
  • Review plans and specifications, assess risks, and perform quantity takeoffs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of construction field engineering experience.
  • Experience in electrical construction is a plus.
  • Knowledge of reading engineering plans and specifications.
  • Ability to access all points of a construction site.
  • Motivated, with a strong work ethic and commitment to safety and integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
