Electrical Engineering Technologist

Red Deer, Alberta

Job Description and Responsibilities

The primary function of the Electrical Technologist will be to design, install, maintain, program, configure, and troubleshoot electrical machinery, controls, industrial automation, and data acquisition systems.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Receiving and preparing wiring diagrams, specifications, and instructions for repairs, installation, and inspections.
  • Analyzing drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment, determine material needs, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Planning detailed procedures for efficient work execution.
  • Performing work requiring knowledge of specifications, material properties, and operational principles of equipment.
  • Locating faults in electrical equipment through testing and inspection.
  • Dismantling, repairing, adjusting, or replacing faulty parts on motors, generators, control panels, and electronic devices.
  • Replacing coils, resistors, relays, and rheostats.
  • Programming and configuring automation controllers such as PLCs, robotic controllers, VFDs, and DC drives.
Requirements
  • Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma.
  • Red Seal Journey Electrician certification preferred.
  • 1-5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with electrical controls, transmitters, valves, drives, temperature sensors, and automation software.
  • Willingness to work shifts (days and nights).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
