Job Description

The Opportunity:

WSP is seeking a 8 or 12 month Co-op student in the Electrical Engineering program to join our Rail & Transit department for the May 2025 Term. Reporting to the Signalling Engineering team lead in Calgary, this position will be responsible for supporting both heavy and light rail related projects.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Support senior engineers with signalling related engineering drawings, contract documents, quantity/cost calculations, and coordination tasks.
  • Work with tight schedules, be flexible, and maintain a very high quality for all assigned work.
  • Support project tasks, based on an understanding of the project scope, schedule, and budget, under the direction of project Managers and Coordinators.
  • Assist with report writing.
  • Assist with other heavy rail related projects.
  • Perform general office duties, such as assisting with the preparation of proposals.
  • Assist with development and refinement of custom add-ins and plug-ins using VB.NET and ObjectARX for AutoCAD.
  • Support the senior developers to streamline repetitive engineering tasks, reduce manual drafting errors, and improve data consistency.
  • Some field work may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering Co-op program (preferably 4th year students).
  • Excellent academic record.
  • Excellent technical, analytical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Familiar with MS Office, Excel, AutoCAD.
  • Familiar with VB.NET and ObjectARX for AutoCAD.
  • Familiar with developing Python codes.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Proven ability to work successfully in multi-disciplinary teams.
