Job description

The Opportunity:

WSP’s NCRA M&E Property & Buildings Team is seeking an Electrical Engineering Coop Student to join our Electrical team at the Queensview office in Ottawa. Reporting to an Electrical Manager, the student will assist with design work, drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit 3D modeling, and BIM360 services on various Property & Buildings projects.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering program.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver designs and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit 3D.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration across disciplines.
  • Familiarity with engineering software for studies such as arc flash, load, fault, and coordination studies, lighting, grounding, etc., is an asset.
  • Enthusiastic, eager to learn, detail-oriented, organized, hardworking, and a team player.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Note: Eligibility for Canadian Federal Government Enhanced Reliability clearance is mandatory to work with some clients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic electrical design and calculations for power distribution, control, communication, lighting, fire alarm, and security systems in transportation projects.
  • Prepare AutoCAD drawings and Revit 3D models for electrical systems.
  • Learn building electrical requirements, including Ontario Building Code (OBC), Electrical Safety Authority standards, and IEEE standards for building and site design.
  • Work individually or as part of a team under supervision of engineers and project managers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
