What you can expect to do here:

  • Design power distribution, power generation and substations for low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems of industrial plants such as pump stations, water treatment plants, and other industries;
  • Perform load calculations as well as utilize modeling software to size transformers, generators, switchgear, breakers, switches, MCCs, cables, capacitor banks, UPS, harmonic filters, and other electrical equipment;
  • Develop electrical models using ETAP and EasyPower and perform analysis such as power flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection & coordination, harmonics, and static & dynamic motor start up;
  • Develop single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, equipment layout and elevation drawings, P&IDs, grounding layouts, motor schematics and wiring diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, equipment interconnection wiring diagrams, AC/DC schematics, cable schedules, cable tray layouts, area classification drawings, fire alarm riser and layout, control panel layouts, specifications, cost estimates, lighting layouts, etc;
  • Selection of metering and protection relays, (CTs, and PTs);
  • Develop network wiring diagrams depicting nodes and communications of networks implementing protocols such as Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, DeviceNet, or Ethernet;
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent;
  • Carry out field reviews for project under construction;
  • Maintain client service through project delivery, communication with clients, and acting on client feedback;
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Minimum 5 years of electrical consulting design experience in industrial sector (after graduating post secondary);
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited Canadian institution;
  • Registered P.Eng or eligible for P.Eng through EGBC;
  • PE in California is an asset;
  • Experience with Metro Vancouver projects is an asset.

Although it would be good for candidates to have experience in the following, it is not necessary to have knowledge of all categories when applying for this role:

  • Experience in preparation of detail design drawings including single-line diagrams, equipment layouts and elevations, grounding layouts, motor schematics and wiring diagrams, equipment interconnection wiring diagrams, AC/DC schematics, instrument loop diagrams, electrical P&IDs, cable schedules, cable tray layouts, area classification drawings, fire alarm riser and layout, control panel layouts, specifications, cost estimates, lighting layouts, etc;
  • Experience in sizing, developing specifications, and reviewing shop drawings of low-voltage and medium-voltage equipment including switchgear, transformers, motor control centres, variable frequency drives, breakers, switches, switches, etc;
  • Experience in sizing, developing specifications, and reviewing shop drawings of variable frequency drives and harmonic filters, power monitoring & metering relays, CTs, and PTs;
  • Experience in industrial project detail design cycle - preliminary, detailed design, development of drawings and specifications, cost estimation, construction support and commissioning;
  • Experience in performing power system studies using ETAP, SKM or EasyPower with the following modules: power flow, short circuit, protection and coordination, arc flash and grounding;
  • Experience in performing dynamic and static motor start up analysis, and harmonics analysis using ETAP or similar computer modeling software would be an asset;
  • Experience of industrial plant automation utilizing control systems such as PLC, RTU, DCS and SCADA, would be an asset;
  • Knowledge and experience with communication protocols such as Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, DeviceNet, and Ethernet would be an asset;
  • Experience in application of electrical codes and standards such as CEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEMA, NESC, ANSI, ATS, FM Global, etc;
  • Results orientated, with a reputation for, project delivery, quality, and customer service, and commercial acumen;
  • Strong ability to optimise and prioritise conflicting demands in a busy environment, to achieve deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and English written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail; and
  • Clean driving record/abstract.

Compensation:

Salary range (in British Columbia): $91,200 - $125,400

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
