Electrical Engineer– Street Lighting - Edmonton

What You’ll Do:

As an Electrical Engineer – Street Lighting, you will lead and contribute to the design, analysis, and delivery of street lighting systems for transportation and urban infrastructure projects. You will apply engineering principles to develop safe, efficient, and sustainable lighting solutions that meet regulatory standards and client expectations. Your role will involve close coordination with internal teams, external stakeholders, and authorities to ensure the successful execution of lighting components across all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

  • Develop electrical designs for street lighting systems, including layout, circuiting, load calculations, and control systems.
  • Conduct photometric analysis and lighting level assessments to ensure compliance with local and international standards.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design reports using industry-standard software.

Project Management & Delivery

  • Contribute to project planning, budgeting, and scheduling related to electrical scope.
  • Monitor design progress and ensure deliverables align with project milestones and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers and discipline leads to support integrated design delivery.

Stakeholder & Technical Coordination

  • Liaise with utility companies, municipalities, and transport authorities for power supply coordination and permitting.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (civil, structural, transport) to ensure seamless design integration.
  • Participate in technical reviews and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential design issues.

Construction & Site Support

  • Support the construction phase by responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and evaluating field modifications.
  • Conduct site inspections and assist with commissioning and testing of lighting systems as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Level:
    • Junior: 0–3 years of relevant experience
    • Intermediate: 4–9 years of relevant experience
    • Senior: 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in the design and implementation of street lighting systems for infrastructure or urban development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of lighting standards and regulations (e.g., IES, AS/NZS, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in general electrical and lighting design software (e.g., AutoCAD, lighting calculation tools, GIS-based applications).
  • Solid understanding of electrical distribution, circuit protection, and control systems relevant to public lighting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
