Description:

Summary:
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams to provide electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Projects will focus on design and analysis and will include preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations as well as the design of power and controls from the ground up. The work will be related to industrial processing facilities, power plants, mining facilities, and municipal water and wastewater facilities. This person will also be responsible for managing projects, coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff, providing technical leadership, managing teams to meet clients' needs, and conducting business development activities. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems.
  2. 5+ years of related experience working in a design or management capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization.
  3. Experience in an industrial production environment such as mining and/or minerals processing, power plants, petroleum refining, or chemical production facilities.
  4. Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above.
  5. Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  6. Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative.
  7. A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
  8. Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng.) license in at least one U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction.
  9. Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future or the ability to obtain a TN Visa.
  10. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of related experience.
  2. 10+ years of production experience.
  3. Demonstrated project organization and management skills.
  4. Client-relationship and business-development skills.
  5. Experience with AutoCAD.
  6. Experience with SKM Power Tools or E-Tap software for coordination and arc flash studies.
  7. Experience with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming software.
  8. Experience with start-up/commissioning of industrial projects.

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. This position can be based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, or Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, offices.

NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided before being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
