Hatch is seeking an Electrical Engineer-in-Training, New Graduate with interest in Electrical and Power system engineering in our Project Delivery Group. Reporting to the Electrical discipline lead Engineer, you will support projects locally and globally working from our Trail, BC office with opportunities in other Hatch offices and at project job sites.

Trail is located 10 minutes from Rossland and the famous Red Mountain Resort. Rossland and the surrounding Columbia Valley region is a mecca for mountain biking / lake activities in the summer and skiing / snowboarding in the winter. If you have strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and understand innovation, we want to hear from you.

Newly hired EITs will be assigned to work closely with experienced engineers, and there will be opportunities for travel and work assignments in Canadian and international site locations. There will also be opportunities to specialize in a particular technical area and work with multidisciplinary engineering team locally and with other Hatch offices. The position will engage newly hired EITs in formal mentorship and active career management, allowing career growth to take place in a structured setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Electrical Engineering design support to multidiscipline teams on maintenance, expansion and new construction projects
  • Industrial electrical design for LV, MV and HV power distribution including development of single line diagrams, motor schematics, protection/control schemes and layout drawings.
  • Electrical system modelling using Easypower/ETAP, conducting arc flash and other studies.
  • Development of technical specifications, reports and construction work packages
  • Power system control programming, configuration, implementation on-site and commissioning
  • Interfacing and collaboration with project team members, clients and vendors, including:
    • Participate in site evaluations and data collection
    • Preparing RFQs, including specifications, scopes of work and data sheets
    • Evaluate Vendor quotations for technical adequacy, budgetary constraints and client requirements
    • Vendor document review and approval
    • Participate in preparing construction work packages
    • Participate in the development of study reports and cost estimating.
    • Provide on-site construction support

Education and Experience:

  • Must be working towards graduating in 2025, or recently graduated, with a Bachelors of Applied Science, Masters of Applied Science, or Masters of Engineering from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering.
  • Good knowledge of power systems, AC and DC design and electrical design fundamentals.
  • Courses in electric circuits, power electronics and electric machines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and AutoCad.
  • Previous coop or work terms in electrical engineering design/execution will be considered an asset.
