Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Training to join a team of engineers, technicians and technologists on multiple projects for public and private sector clients in Ontario. The role offers a hybrid work model with opportunities to work from Toronto or London offices.

You will assist with distribution design, cost-aware solutions, and coordination with Professional Engineers while supporting various utilities and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical engineering with a focus on Toronto Hydro Streetlighting/Distribution relocations and an understanding of the SDP, latest Toronto Hydro Construction Standards and Toronto Hydro Technical Specifications for civil construction work are mandatory.
• Experience with computer drafting using MicroStation and AutoCAD is an asset.
• Knowledge of overhead and underground distribution system design including transformer loading, cable ampacity, conduit filling, voltage drop for radial systems and underground cable pulling calculations.
• Knowledge of lighting photometric calculations and experience with photometric software AGI32 and ANSI/IES RP-8 standards is required. Proficiency in additional lighting software is an asset.
• Experience with pole modeling software SPIDA Calc is preferred. PLS-CADD knowledge is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Engineers with distribution system designs for various utilities per codes and standards.
• Develop design solutions aligning with client goals and costs.
• Lead and coordinate designs with Professional Engineers for review.
• Prepare and review construction packages with drawings and specifications.
• Provide construction support and liaise with contractors, customers, and suppliers.
• Support engineers with technical studies, calculations, and cost estimates.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
