Job summary

Stantec in Canada is seeking a Junior to Intermediate Electrical Engineer in Training to support building projects across the province and country. You will assist in designing electrical systems, producing drawings and calculations, and coordinating with a P.Eng.

team lead to ensure compliance with codes and standards, including power, emergency power, lighting, fire alarm and communications systems. The ideal candidate has CAD and Revit proficiency, 2+ years’ experience in building projects,

Qualifications

  • Understanding of Electrical Engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Knowledge of CAD/Revit in building projects and codes is an asset.
  • Awareness of Canadian Electrical Code and building/energy codes is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design and coordination of electrical systems for building projects.
  • Produce drawings and calculations and participate in client meetings.
  • Coordinate with lead engineer to specify and engineer electrical systems including power, lighting and fire alarm.
  • Develop design from concept to construction documents under guidance of a P.Eng./P.L.Eng.
  • Support in project scope, budget, staffing and schedule management.
  • Contribute to design decision documentation and QA/QC on projects.

Your Opportunity

You will work as a junior to intermediate Electrical Engineer in Training, reporting to a P.Eng. team lead to deliver on buildings projects throughout the province and country. The candidate would support in the design of electrical systems for buildings including design, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems or products in compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices, including scopes in power, emergency power, lighting, fire alarm, and communications systems.

You will perform a variety of tasks including providing drawings & calculations, report writing and attendance in meetings with both internal and external clients.

The ideal candidate will have ideally performed this role in the past, with at least 2 years experience delivering on projects with CAD and Revit proficiencies. The candidate will have been exposed to the proficiencies listed and would be comfortable explaining the basics of each to colleagues and potential clients.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Constant updating of one’s knowledge in Electrical Engineering, Contract Management, and Building codes, as well as the tools to deliver on these
  • Assisting in the design and coordination of projects of varying complexity/size.
  • Coordination with the lead engineer to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer electrical systems or products for a project, including power, lighting, fire alarm, and communications.
  • Development of a design from preliminary concepts through the construction document stage with the guidance of a registered P.Eng. or P.L.Eng.
  • Understanding of Revit/BIM technologies in development of models of building electrical systems is an asset
  • Ability to apply or delegate designs for engineers and technologists/technicians utilizing CAD or Revit.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors, providing good knowledge of the designed Electrical systems
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
  • Assist with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of project specifications.
  • Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Participation in constructability reviews.
  • Quality assurance and quality control on projects.
  • Documentation of design decisions and calculations performed
  • Contribution to the development of new standards, workflows, and specifications for the electrical group.
  • Expectation is the concurrent monitoring and delivery of multiple projects.
  • Ideally a new EIT / AScT working towards ability to function as a full P.Eng / P.L.Eng.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Understanding of Electrical Engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others is essential
  • Working knowledge and application of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable building and energy codes is an asset
  • Understanding and experience with all phases of project document production and the drawings and specifications is an asset
  • Working knowledge and experience with electrical systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards is an asset
  • Familiarity with power studies including short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies is an asset
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Presentation and interview skills.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD.
  • Security clearance eligibility is a must for this position. Candidate must be open to a security clearance check.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering / Integrated Engineering / Engineering Physics OR Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
  • 2+ years of experience in the Buildings Industry is an asset
  • EIT, AScT, P.Eng., P.L.Eng. eligibility an asset

Pay Range
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$67,100.00 - $93,900.00 Annually
Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
