Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Buildings team in Canada. You will lead electrical design for healthcare, institutional, commercial, aviation, municipal, and industrial facilities, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

The role emphasizes leadership, technical mentorship, design delivery, and business development across Canada. Flexible tailoring to senior or intermediate levels may occur based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • P.Eng. in Canada or eligible for registration.
  • Senior Engineer with 10+ years of building electrical systems experience.
  • LEED AP, WELL AP, PMP or similar credentials are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, analysis, design, and documentation of electrical systems for buildings and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design with architects, engineers, ICT, and security teams.
  • Develop electrical studies, reports, calculations, specs, and construction documents.

Your Role:

Stantec is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary Buildings team. The successful candidate will provide electrical engineering design and project delivery support for healthcare, institutional, commercial, aviation, municipal, and industrial facilities while collaborating with architects, engineers, and technology specialists across Canada.

This position is well suited to a practical and resourceful engineer who can lead electrical system design, coordinate multidisciplinary projects, support construction activities, and contribute to client relationships and business development. The role may be tailored to an Intermediate or Senior Engineer based on the successful candidate's experience and professional qualifications.

Your Key Responsibilities:
Project Delivery Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, analysis, design, and documentation of electrical systems for buildings and infrastructure projects.

  • Prepare electrical studies, reports, design calculations, specifications, and construction documents.

  • Design and coordinate electrical systems including: - Utility service entrances and metering systems.

  • Low-voltage electrical distribution systems.

  • Standby generators and emergency power systems.

  • UPS and battery energy storage systems.

  • Grounding and bonding systems.

  • Lighting and lighting control systems.

  • Fire alarm and life safety systems.

  • Power monitoring and metering systems.

  • Electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

  • Renewable energy and sustainable energy solutions.

  • Coordinate electrical systems with architectural, mechanical, structural, civil, ICT, security, and specialty disciplines.

  • Participate in site investigations, existing-condition assessments, field reviews, commissioning activities, and construction support.

  • Review shop drawings, product submissions, requests for information (RFIs), and contractor change proposals.

  • Support project delivery through all phases from concept design through construction completion.

Technical Leadership Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and technologists.

  • Participate in quality reviews and technical peer reviews.

  • Support the development of electrical design standards, specifications, and best practices.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, sustainability initiatives, and applicable codes and standards.

Business and Client Development Responsibilities
  • Support proposals, scope development, effort estimating, and fee preparation.

  • Participate in client meetings, workshops, and presentations.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Identify opportunities for repeat work and new project opportunities.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:
  • Independent, resourceful, and self-motivated, with the ability to successfully manage competing priorities and project deadlines.

  • Strong technical understanding of electrical systems used in healthcare, institutional, commercial, aviation, municipal, and industrial facilities.

  • Experience designing low-voltage electrical distribution systems including service entrances, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, feeder systems, and branch circuit distribution.

  • Experience designing emergency power systems, generators, UPS systems, and critical infrastructure supporting high-reliability facilities.

  • Experience designing lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, grounding, bonding, and power monitoring systems.

  • Knowledge of healthcare electrical systems including CSA Z32, CSA C282, and related healthcare design standards is considered a strong asset.

  • Experience preparing coordinated design drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports using Revit and AutoCAD within multidisciplinary BIM environments.

  • Experience performing load calculations, voltage drop analysis, short-circuit studies, protective device coordination studies, and arc flash assessments.

  • Strong understanding of construction administration processes, field reviews, commissioning, and project closeout activities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities.

  • Ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, utility authorities, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Familiarity with utility coordination requirements and electrical service application processes.

  • Experience with medium-voltage distribution systems (5 kV to 27.6 kV), substations, utility infrastructure, and campus distribution systems is considered an asset.

  • Experience with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CYME, AGi32, Visual, or equivalent engineering analysis software is considered an asset.

  • Familiarity with sustainable building design, electrification strategies, renewable energy systems, and energy storage technologies is considered an asset.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada or eligible for professional registration.

  • Senior Engineer: 10+ years of relevant experience in the design and delivery of electrical systems for buildings and infrastructure projects.

  • Experience with healthcare, institutional, commercial, aviation, municipal, or large public-sector projects is considered a strong asset.

  • LEED Accredited Professional, WELL AP, PMP, or other relevant professional certifications are considered assets.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may require travel and include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:

Locations in Lower Mainland -- BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$114,600.00 - $164,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
