Job summary

Snc-Lavalin in North York, Ontario, is hiring an Electrical Engineer with Airfield Lighting experience for a regular full-time role in our Engineering Services group. You will contribute to planning, design, and delivery of electrical systems for aviation projects, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.

The position requires a university degree in Electrical Engineering and a P.Eng (or eligible) with at least six years of design, construction and commissioning work on major capital

Qualifications

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on aviation and commercial electrical systems.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with PEO or eligible.
  • Six years’ experience in the design, construction and commissioning of industrial and commercial electrical systems within a major capital project/program.
  • Aviation experience considered an asset.
  • Thorough working knowledge of airfield lighting, system safety design; electrical design/construction; operations and maintenance.
  • Understanding of ICAO, Transport Canada Aerodrome Standards, airport operations, HRDC (Fire Commissioner of Canada), Underwriters Laboratories, Code Consultants, and Health & Safety Consultants.
  • Knowledge of ISO55001 Asset Management standard.

  • Ensure electrical design/construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing.
  • Conduct Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for renovations, alterations, maintenance, and new construction.
  • Provide non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections during various stages of construction.
  • Support governance and process documentation for the program’s electrical practices.
  • Coordinate interfaces between disciplines to ensure integration and alignment across programs, facilities and assets.
  • Review contractor deliverables for compliance with requirements, codes, and standards.

Job Description Overview

The Engineering Services group is looking for an Electrical Engineer with Airfield Lighting experience to join our growing team. This is a regular full‑time permanent position based in our North York, Ontario office.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advice, guidance and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to electrical systems design and construction including compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
  • Ensure electrical systems design and construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing.
  • Conduct Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance work and new construction.
  • Provide non‑resident engineering expertise through field inspections during various stages of construction.
  • Support the development of governance and process documentation with respect to the program’s practices for electrical systems engineering.
  • Assess alternative technical proposals submitted by the contractor and provide feedback on feasibility and alignment to project requirements.
  • Coordinate the technical elements of the program with respect to electrical systems engineering, including establishing targets/goals for the program.
  • Coordinate the interface between other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination across programs, facilities, and assets.
  • Review deliverables submitted by the contractor/designer and confirm compliance to the relevant requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Monitor the input of the designer throughout the construction phase (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock‑up approvals, punch list, etc.).
  • Provide management‑level progress reports and briefings with respect to electrical systems design progress, issues, and opportunities.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of staff.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on aviation and commercial electrical systems.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with PEO or eligible to be registered.
  • Six years’ experience in the design, construction and commissioning of industrial and commercial electrical systems within a major capital project/program.
  • Aviation experience considered an asset. Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
  • Thorough working knowledge of airfield lighting, system safety design; electrical design/construction; operations and maintenance.
  • Understanding of stakeholder/regulatory requirements including ICAO, Transport Canada Aerodrome Standards, airport operations, HRDC (Fire Commissioner of Canada), Underwriters Laboratories, Code Consultants, and Health & Safety Consultants.
  • Knowledge of ISO55001 Asset Management standard.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office365, project scheduling software, Maximo, ProjectWise, Oracle ERP, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
Compensation

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $90,000 - $120,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
