Stantec is seeking an Airport Electrical Engineer to interface with clients and stakeholders, focusing on delivering high-quality project outcomes. You will primarily work within our airports practice while supporting broader transportation, buildings, and water teams as needed.

Ideal candidates bring hands-on electrical design experience for airports and strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills to mentor junior designers and EITs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4+ yrs experience with Aviation or Airfield related projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or eligible.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary civil and mechanical concepts is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex engineering design tasks on airport projects under supervision of Lead Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Power distribution design for airport facilities.
  • Design, construction and commissioning of electrical infrastructure and related systems.
  • Design of airfield installations incl. lighting, signage, and temporary lighting.
  • Field Quality Control and lighting level measurements.
  • Support permitting processes with clients, contractors and agencies.

Your Opportunity

In the capacity of Airport Electrical Engineer, you will interface directly with clients and stakeholders to effectively manage project deliverables, with a focus on quality and team collaboration. You will be primarily working with our airports practice but also supporting a number of our interconnected sectors, including transportation, buildings, industrial, pipelines and water teams as required. Airport experience is essential, however a broad range of electrical engineering design experience across these other sectors is advantageous.

An Electrical Engineer has the interpersonal skills to foster a positive team environment, work collaboratively with multiple disciplines and support a culture of safety. Through your broad consulting background, you will perform a variety of tasks which may include design & design management, business planning, project management, client account management, resource planning, proposal writing, and quality management.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Performs more complex engineering design tasks on assigned airport projects, under the supervision of our Lead Engineer or Project Manager, including preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and reports.
  • Power distribution design.
  • Design, Construction and commissioning of electrical infrastructure, Field Electrical Centers, regulators, cabling, remote kiosks, transformers, and other related systems.
  • Design of Airfield installations for pulpits, AGL, approach lighting, signage. temporary lighting and floodlights.
  • Field Quality Control and lighting level measurements
  • Involved in the permitting process of projects (including airport permits and municipal building permits), which may require meeting with clients, contractors and reviewing agency personnel, with the aim of seeking necessary approvals.
  • May be responsible for the review and sealing of own projects or the work of the others.
  • Supports the design and construction of projects, including construction supervision (as required).
  • Supports business development activities, including proposal responses and client account planning- Liaise with clients as required.
  • Undertake project / design management of smaller discipline-specific assignments.
  • Mentoring of and technical development of junior designers and EIT’s
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
  • Strong communication skills, including an aptitude for effective leadership and people management.
  • Understanding and appreciation of all phases of infrastructure projects, including conventional and alternative delivery methods for public and private clients through all phases of the project life cycle.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all phases of project document production.
  • Thorough understanding of local and federal design guidelines and specifications, including TP312 5th Edition, CCDC, MMCD and Canadian NMS.
  • Thorough understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and stakeholders.
  • Possesses excellent time-management skills, thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Thorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of relevant design software, which may include some or all of the following: Autodesk BIM 360, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and AGI32.
  • Understanding of SKM Groundmat, AGI32 and AutoCAD Civil 3D to be considered an asset.
Education and Experience

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$94,600.00 - $137,100.00 Annually
