Valbruna ASW Inc., the premier specialty steel-making facility located in Welland, ON, has an immediate requirement for the following position:
Electrical Engineer

Reporting through the Maintenance and Engineering group, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for:
- Troubleshooting, maintaining, and managing capital upgrades to electrical infrastructure and control systems at high voltage (115 kV), medium voltage (27.6 kV or 4.16 kV), low voltage (480 V), DC (250 VDC), small load (120 VAC), and control (24 VDC) levels.
- Coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance programs for high and medium voltage equipment, including infrared inspections, insulator cleaning, transformer oil tests, breaker servicing, and switchgear maintenance.
- Managing the backup diesel generator preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure reliability.
- Supervising or supporting automation technicians and electricians in troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems.
- Acting as liaison with Hydro One and IESO regarding shutdowns, maintenance, and communication.
- Managing multiple capital projects from conception to commissioning, including scope generation, RFQ packages, scheduling, and supervising contractors.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, including the Ontario Building Code, Electrical Safety Code, and OHSA.
- Coordinating with external consulting engineers and supporting health and safety initiatives.
- Developing engineering standards, standards, and equipment specifications.
- Conducting electrical engineering studies and assessments.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- A valid P.Eng. license or eligibility to register with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- At least 5 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in heavy industry and high voltage infrastructure.
- Experience in designing, troubleshooting, and maintaining power distribution systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, motors, grounding, and controls.
- Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of PLC programming, including ladder logic and structured text.
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC hardware and software, HMI software (preferably Ignition), and motor control/VFD systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, lean environment with a focus on adaptability and innovation.
