Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a growing engineering and fabrication team specializing in custom water and wastewater treatment systems.

This role is responsible for supporting the electrical design and execution of customized treatment systems, including power distribution, controls, instrumentation, equipment selection, and electrical layouts. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, project management, production, clients, consultants, and external stakeholders to deliver solutions that are technically sound, code-compliant, practical to fabricate, and cost-effective.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer who enjoys working in a hands-on, project-based environment and seeing designs progress from concept through fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Engineering
  • Design electrical systems for custom water and wastewater treatment applications serving municipal, industrial, remote, and other specialized environments.
  • Develop electrical designs for power distribution and control systems, including MCCs, control panels, field devices, and instrumentation.
  • Prepare electrical layouts, including equipment locations, conduit and cable routing, panel locations, and interfaces with mechanical systems.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and interconnection diagrams based on detailed P&IDs.
  • Prepare and maintain electrical load lists, cable schedules, I/O lists, panel schedules, and related engineering documentation.
  • Review designs for functionality, constructability, safety, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Coordinate electrical design with mechanical, process, instrumentation, and controls disciplines to ensure effective system integration.
  • Work closely with project managers, production, fabrication, and shop-floor teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants, clients, contractors, and other external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Respond to technical questions and provide engineering clarification during design, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Support consultant and client reviews, including responding to design comments and resolving interdisciplinary issues.
  • Participate as a key technical member of project teams under the direction of the Electrical Engineering Manager.
Codes, Standards & Compliance
  • Apply a strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA standards, and other applicable electrical requirements.
  • Ensure electrical designs meet applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, client, and project requirements.
  • Review and resolve code-related comments, deficiencies, and technical issues raised by consultants, clients, or authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable industry standards and evolving electrical engineering practices.
Equipment Selection & Procurement
  • Select and specify electrical equipment, control components, instrumentation, and related materials based on project requirements.
  • Assist with sourcing electrical and controls components and developing technical specifications.
  • Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, datasheets, and technical documentation for compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide technical input into electrical equipment procurement and vendor selection.
  • Support electrical and controls cost estimating and budgeting activities.
Project & Field Support
  • Provide electrical engineering input into project schedules, budgets, technical risks, and overall project delivery.
  • Support fabrication and assembly activities by providing timely engineering clarification and resolving technical issues.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), commissioning, troubleshooting, and system start-up activities.
  • Provide technical support during installation and commissioning as required.
  • Travel periodically to customer and project sites for installation support, testing, commissioning, inspections, and technical meetings.
  • Perform other related engineering duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC.
  • 5-10 years of electrical engineering experience in project-based industrial, manufacturing, process, water/wastewater, or similar environments.
  • Strong experience with industrial electrical systems, power distribution, controls, and instrumentation integration.
  • Demonstrated experience developing electrical and control schematics from detailed P&IDs.
  • Experience working directly with engineering consultants, clients, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design practices, specifications, codes, and applicable engineering standards.
  • Proficiency with relevant electrical engineering and design software.
  • Experience working in a fabrication or manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with engineers, project managers, production personnel, and shop-floor teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and technical coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and technical priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to project and customer sites.
