Job summary

AWC Water Solutions Ltd. in Calgary is seeking an intermediate Electrical Engineer to support the design and fabrication teams on water and wastewater treatment projects.

You will size electrical equipment, lead electrical activities on projects, review drawings and BOMs, collaborate with I&C teams, and help improve the Quality Management System. Applicants should hold a post-secondary degree in Electrical Engineering, be actively registered as a P.Eng.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Active P.Eng. registration in Alberta or British Columbia required.
  • 5–10 years’ experience designing, sizing and selecting process electrical equipment.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Size electrical equipment to meet client specs, codes and standards.
  • Act as electrical lead on projects.
  • Review engineering documents for compliance with client specs and codes.
  • Collaborate with I&C design and fabrication teams to verify equipment selection.
  • Assist in prototypes and testing; adjust designs as needed.
  • Review fabrication and assembly drawings and BOMs; support change orders.

Job description

AWC Water Solutions Ltd. specializes in providing integrated water, wastewater treatment plants and many other specialized industrial packaged solutions. We offer clients advanced in-house engineering & design with 3D modeling, piloting, fabrication and machining, in-house control panel shop, and a full range of field services, allowing us to provide turn-key solutions.

We are seeking an intermediate level Electrical Engineer to support the design and fabrication teams and who also brings professionalism and dedication to the work we do and the communities we serve.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in the selection and sizing of electrical equipment for water and wastewater treatment systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform analysis to size electrical equipment that meets Client specifications, codes, and standards.

  • Act as electrical lead on projects

  • Review engineering document and verify compliance of selected electrical equipment to client specifications and industry standards and codes.

  • Work with the electrical and I&C (instrumentation and controls) design and fabrication teams to verify equipment selection and sizing provided by the application engineering group.

  • Assist in the creation of prototypes and conduct testing to validate the design and make necessary adjustments.

  • Review of Fabrication Drawings, Assembly Drawings, Bills of Materials, General Arrangement Drawings, Equipment Layout, and supports the development of change orders, etc.

  • Assist project managers with client needs by taking part in client meetings or calls.

  • Evaluate and recommend cost-effective design options without compromising quality and performance.

  • Collaborate with internal departments (fabrication, sales, etc.) and external stakeholders (vendors, owners, owners’ engineers, etc.) to achieve desired project outcomes.

  • Stay updated with industry best practices and technologies through training and self-improvement initiatives.

  • Help in the continual improvement of AWC’s Quality Management System’s practices, procedures, templates, and checklists by participating in design reviews, feedback sessions, and process improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and efficiency.

  • Mentor and train junior team members.

  • Post Secondary Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Holds active P.Eng. registration in the province of BC or Alberta.

  • 5-10 years of work experience designing, sizing, and selecting process electrical equipment.

  • Strong communication and written skills

  • Knowledge of process electrical equipment an asset

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, exposure to Autodesk products is an asset.

  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles utilized in the design of electrical and controls systems is an asset.

  • Eligible to work in Canada.
