Reporting to the Electrical Section Manager, the Electrical Engineer is a dynamic engineer who is comfortable within a multi-discipline team environment. They are the member of the project team that contributes electrical engineering knowledge and analysis to the project during the design phase of our work. The project mix is varied but the core focus is for Building Engineering Systems within Industrial, Transit, Data Centre and Healthcare markets. The role involves working on multiple projects in various locations. Some opportunities for progression in this position include roles for Project Management, Electrical Engineer in a specialized role.

In the role of Electrical Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with all stakeholders (Electrical team, Project Manager, design team, and authorities having jurisdiction) to help achieve success for each project.
  • Perform electrical Building Condition Assessment. Work with team to deliver comprehensive facility condition reports.
  • Prepare electrical drawings and perform relevant supporting calculations and/or modelling
  • Write and edit electrical specifications, select equipment, electrical systems and devices
  • Coaches younger engineering and design staff and is accountable for the work produced. Assigns routine engineering tasks requiring application of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Works independently on small and medium projects and assists more senior engineers on larger projects.
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Coordinate workload to complete engineering tasks on schedule
  • Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Review electrical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines
  • Provide construction contract administration/support as needed including performance of field inspections and commissioning Review submittals for compliance to the contract documents.
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other electrical engineers, technicians, drafters as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Scope of work includes the following electrical engineering practice elements of building engineering:

  • Power Distribution (high, medium, and low voltage)
  • Generators and Uninterruptible Power Supplies
  • Lighting design and simulation
  • Fire alarm and life safety systems
  • Security and access control systems
  • Communications (PA, intercom, CCTV, ICAT cabling)
  • Industrial equipment installations
  • Facility Commissioning

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years experience of electrical design for buildings (lightning/power/systems)
  • Knowledge and experience with relevant Provincial and Canadian electrical codes and regulations
  • Experience in industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities. Data Centre, Healthcare, and/or High Voltage experience desired.
  • Strong computer skills and experience using AutoCAD, Microstation, Revit, AGi32, Easy Power, ETAP, SKM, Bluebeam and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired
  • Experience in Revit would be an asset

Further, the position requires:

  • Compliance with HDR and, as applicable, contractor safety policies and procedures
  • Potential attendance at job sites to support design and construction activities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
  • Previous experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems)
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example:Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, Revit, SKM, AGI and Easy Power
