Job summary

Insight Global seeks an Intermediate Electrical Engineer for a major carbon capture project in Regina, Saskatchewan. You will review electrical deliverables, coordinate with EPC contractors, and assist with commissioning while ensuring alignment with codes and project specs.

Based onsite, this 6-month contract has strong potential for extension or conversion to permanent. Ideal candidates have 4+ years in heavy industrial electrical engineering and may hold a P.Eng or be near designation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 4+ years of electrical engineering experience in heavy industrial environments.
• P.Eng designation preferred; advanced EIT candidates nearing designation will be considered.
• Experience with industrial power systems, substations, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Review electrical deliverables, including substation, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, motors, cables, and tray layouts.
• Support electrical design reviews, constructability reviews, and technical workshops.
• Review motor control philosophies, equipment selections, and power distribution designs.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and project specifications.
• Interface with SaskPower and support gas turbine integration.
• Participate in scope development, engineering reviews, and project execution activities.
• Support energization, commissioning, startup, turnover activities.
• Assist in asset care and maintenance strategy development for operations.
• Collaborate with operations, construction, and engineering to resolve issues.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Insight Global is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to support a major carbon capture capital project in Regina, Saskatchewan. Reporting to the Lead Electrical Engineer, this individual will provide technical review and oversight of electrical engineering deliverables, support project execution activities, and assist with commissioning and startup efforts throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will work closely with EPC contractors, operations teams, and project stakeholders to ensure electrical systems are designed, installed, and commissioned in accordance with project requirements, industry standards, and long-term operational objectives.

This is a on-site 6 month contract opportunity in Regina with high likelihood of extension or conversion to full time.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and provide technical feedback on electrical engineering deliverables, including: Substation, Switchgear, Transformers, MCCs (Motor Control Centers), Electric motors, Cable schedules, Cable tray routing and layouts.
• Support electrical design reviews, constructability reviews, and technical workshops.
• Review motor control philosophies, equipment selections, and power distribution designs.
• Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards, and project specifications.
• Interface with SaskPower and support integration with gas turbine generation systems.
• Participate in scope development, engineering reviews, and project execution activities.
• Support energization, commissioning, startup, and turnover activities.
• Assist in developing asset care and maintenance strategies for long-term operations.
• Collaborate with operations, construction, and engineering teams to resolve technical issues.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 4+ years of electrical engineering experience within heavy industrial environments.
• P.Eng. designation preferred; advanced EIT candidates nearing designation will be considered.
• Experience with: Industrial power systems, Substations, Switchgear, Transformers, MCCs and electric motors, Cable routing and electrical infrastructure, Hazardous area classifications, Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
• Experience reviewing engineering designs and technical deliverables.
• Strong understanding of electrical system design for capital projects.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Owner's Engineer, Owner's Representative, or owner/operator experience.
• Large industrial capital project experience.
• Electric heat tracing systems.
• Commissioning, startup, and operational readiness support.
• Experience within refining, petrochemical, chemical processing, mining, potash, oil & gas, or power generation environments.
