Job description

The Opportunity:
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Burnaby office. This role focuses on electrical system design, condition assessments, and long-term electrical planning for multi-family and mixed-use buildings. You'll play a key role in guiding clients through system upgrades, energy efficiency opportunities, and future-ready infrastructure planning (e.g., EV charging, HVAC upgrades). Building envelope knowledge is an asset, but electrical expertise is the core of this position.

The ideal candidate is a recently registered P.Eng. (1–2 years) who is detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to contribute to both technical design and strategic long-range planning for existing buildings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth inspections and assessments of electrical systems in existing buildings, including load evaluations, life expectancy reviews, and code compliance.
  • Produce clear, strategic electrical planning reports for clients, focusing on long-term needs such as EV charging capacity, HVAC modernization, energy upgrades, and safety improvements.
  • Design and layout electrical systems and upgrades, ensuring code compliance, constructability, and practicality.
  • Estimate upgrade costs, assist in developing capital plans, and support tender documentation and specifications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on energy audits, depreciation reports, and building renewal plans.
  • Review and coordinate architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings to ensure cohesive integration with electrical systems.
  • Attend client meetings, present findings and recommendations, and help guide decision-making around electrical investments.
  • Optionally support or oversee electrical aspects of construction administration, including shop drawing reviews and field inspections.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • P.Eng. designation in good standing with EGBC, ideally held for 1–2 years.
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical design, building systems, and infrastructure planning for existing buildings.
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code and BC Building Code requirements related to electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience producing electrical planning reports and recommending phased upgrade strategies.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and common electrical design tools; capable with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Willingness to perform field work, including inspections on rooftops and at heights (e.g., ladders, swing stages).
Assets:
  • Experience with energy audits, capital planning, or depreciation reporting.
  • Knowledge of EV charging infrastructure and energy efficiency upgrades.
  • Familiarity with building envelope systems and their integration with electrical systems.
  • Experience working with strata corporations or property managers.
  • Proficiency in Revit or additional engineering software (e.g., lighting analysis, load calculation tools).
