The Opportunity: WSP’s Building/Transportation M&E Team is currently seeking an Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our Electrical team, located in Thornhill office. Reporting to Electrical Group Manager, the EIT will be responsible for basic calculation, design, technical specification, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit 3D modeling, and BIM360 services on various projects.

Responsibilities

A day in the life:

  • Basic electrical design, calculation and preparing specification of power distribution, lighting systems, lighting control, fire alarm, and emergency power for transportation projects;
  • Preparing AutoCAD drawings and Revit 3D modeling for all electrical systems;
  • Basic understanding of Electrical Engineering requirements, Ontario Building Code (OBC), Electrical Safety Authority, and IEEE standards for Building and Site design;
  • Perform individually or as a team member with electrical discipline and under direct supervision of senior engineers or discipline lead;
  • Basic understanding of project management;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

Qualifications

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • University graduated with minimum Bachelor’s degree of Electrical Engineering;
  • Registered as an EIT with PEO is a plus;
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in designing basic electrical systems for buildings, transportation, healthcare and light industrial projects including but not limited to: power distribution, lighting, life safety, fire alarm, emergency power, UPS, security, IT, Communications (COMM), Building Automation System (BAS);
  • Ability to work independently to deliver comprehensive designs and meet the deadlines;
  • Basic exposure and experience with utility companies, authorities having jurisdiction, and applicable codes, standards and work practices;
  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit 3D;
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with team members and other disciplines;
  • Disciplined, enthusiastic, eager to learn, detail oriented, organized, hard worker, and team player attitude;
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Basic familiarity with software used for engineering studies - arc flash, load, fault and coordination studies, lighting, grounding, etc. is an asset.
