Job summary

Crown Technical Systems in Vaughan, ON, seeks an Electrical Designer to prepare electrical design packages such as single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs for assigned projects. The role uses AutoCAD to design switchgear project drawings and to update drawings as changes occur during engineering and production processes.

You will review AC/DC schematics, validate customer BOMs, and collaborate with the electrical project engineer and production team to answer design questions

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
  • Proficient at reading and interpreting engineering drawings and electrical product guidelines.
  • Proficient with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical design packages including single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and BOMs.
  • Design AutoCAD drawings for switchgear projects.
  • Review and validate AC/DC schematics and customer BOMs for accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the electrical project engineer and production teams on project deliverables.
  • Produce as-built drawings from redlines and notes at project end.

Electrical Designer – Vaughan, ON

Reporting to the Hardware Manager, the Electrical Designer is responsible for the preparation of electrical design packages including single‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and bills of materials for assigned projects.

Typical Day
  • Read and understand customer specifics for electrical components, assemblies, equipment, and systems.
  • Prepare electrical design packages for assigned manufacturing projects.
  • Design electrical schematics, layouts, and drawings for electrical systems including HVAC systems, lighting, receptacles, fans, fire alarm systems, and battery systems using AutoCAD.
  • Design AutoCAD drawings of three‑line and wiring drawings for switchgear projects.
  • Review AC/DC schematics and validate wiring diagrams; validate customer bill of material for accuracy.
  • Review electrical control house wiring design and update drawings for red‑line corrections; generate “as‑built” drawings from production redlines and notes at project end for customer records.
  • Review and modify designs to reduce production issues; provide timely updates for drawing revisions, following the CTS revision control processes.
  • Collaborate with the electrical project engineer and other technical professionals on assigned projects.
  • Work closely with engineering and production team members to answer design questions that arise during the engineering design and production process.
  • Provide suggestions on areas of improvement to standardize design and increase the efficiency in the manufacturing process.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; education may be substituted for direct related experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including schematics and electrical product guidelines.
  • Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI Standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with MV switchgear testing hands‑on (preferred).
