Job summary

4Sight Utility Engineers is seeking an Electrical Designer (Power Distribution & Streetlighting) to support planning, design, and delivery of utility infrastructure projects across Ontario and Canada. The role collaborates with experienced engineers on municipal and utility projects, with remote work arrangements considered.

The ideal candidate will have a Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field and 3+ years of relevant experience, plus proficiency in AutoCAD;

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in electrical utility, streetlighting, power distribution, or municipal electrical infrastructure design.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with MicroStation, AGi32, Visual, or similar design software is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems and roadway illumination design principles.
  • Familiarity with Ontario electrical utility standards, CSA standards, Ontario Electrical Safety Code requirements, and municipal design criteria.
  • Experience preparing construction drawings, specifications, and engineering support documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed electrical distribution and streetlighting design drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other industry-standard design software.
  • Develop plans, profiles, details, and construction drawings for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
  • Prepare streetlighting and illumination design layouts in accordance with IES RP-8, CSA, municipal, and utility standards.
  • Perform pulling calculations, photometric analysis, voltage drop calculations, load assessments, and equipment selection.
  • Coordinate with municipal agencies, utilities, developers, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout the design process.
  • Review utility records, survey information, and existing infrastructure data to support project design and engineering assessments.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports, design briefs, cost estimates, and contract documents.
  • Support permit applications, approvals, and utility coordination requirements associated with project delivery.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable regulatory requirements, utility standards, safety standards, and company quality procedures.
  • Participate in field investigations, site inspections, asset condition assessments, and construction support activities as required.
  • Maintain project schedules, monitor design progress, and provide regular status updates to project managers and team members.

4Sight Utility Engineers is seeking an Electrical Designer (Power Distribution & Streetlighting) to support the planning, design, and delivery of utility infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and designers on a variety of electrical distribution, streetlighting, roadway illumination, and municipal infrastructure projects throughout Ontario and across Canada.



  • The ideal candidate will have experience with electrical utility design, streetlighting systems, power distribution infrastructure, or municipal electrical projects. Candidates located within the Greater Toronto Area are preferred; however, remote work arrangements will be considered.



Responsibilities

Qualifications


  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in electrical utility, streetlighting, power distribution, or municipal electrical infrastructure design.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with MicroStation, AGi32, Visual, or similar design software is considered an asset.

  • Working knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, streetlighting infrastructure, and roadway illumination design principles.

  • Familiarity with Ontario electrical utility standards, CSA standards, Ontario Electrical Safety Code requirements, and municipal design criteria.

  • Understanding of IES RP-8 roadway lighting standards and illumination design methodologies is considered a strong asset.

  • Experience preparing construction drawings, specifications, and engineering support documentation.

  • Knowledge of utility coordination processes and experience working with hydro utilities, municipalities, or consulting engineering firms is preferred.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a multidisciplinary project team.

  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and willingness to travel to project sites when required.



Pay

CA$25.00 - CA$50.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications and experience.
