Electrical Designer, Integrated Pursuits

Plan Group Inc. is currently looking for an Electrical Design Manager to join our Integrated Pursuits team in pursuing major construction projects across Canada. Our team is actively engaged in several high-profile projects in Ontario and Western Canada.

To succeed in this role, you should demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness while:

  • Directing major decisions with Consulting Firms
  • Communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Evaluating Risks and Opportunities within proposals
  • Overseeing comprehensive and detailed estimates

This role requires strong communication skills (oral and written), demonstrated through client and staff relations, along with presentation skills and confidence in public speaking. Ability to lead meetings and technical discussions is essential to represent Plan Group and its brand effectively.

As an experienced Electrical Design Manager, you should be capable of working independently in a complex, fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and clients. Excellent problem-solving, decision-making skills, a strong sense of urgency, and the ability to prioritize are crucial, along with a willingness to learn and contribute to the team.

As Electrical Designer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting and/or leading specific AFP pursuits with an electrical focus.
  • Reviewing and interpreting issued Statements of Requirements, specifications, and drawings; following through with estimating processes for competitive submissions.
  • Communicating with stakeholders to gather information, clarify specifications, and participate in meetings and presentations.
  • Collaborating within an integrated multi-discipline team to ensure efficiencies and value in pricing and profitability.
  • Working with design teams to ensure designs meet prescriptions with an emphasis on efficiency and cost control.
  • Managing pursuit schedules and deadlines.
  • Working with consultants to complete system layouts aiding the estimating process.
  • Producing material and labour take-offs using estimating software for accurate quotations.
  • Coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within final client quotations.
  • Managing project tasks within time and budget constraints, supervising team tasks for quality and content.
  • Coordinating system installation requirements with other design disciplines.
  • Researching new systems, resources, and practices to improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
  • Staying current with techniques, codes, standards, and developments to enhance technical skills.
  • Participating in bid closing and review meetings.
  • Contributing to project handovers post-award.
  • Maintaining existing business and developing new opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in electrical construction, with an Electrical Engineering degree or related trade experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in Ontario or Ingénieur licensed in Québec is an asset.
  • Experience in Design Build / P3 Healthcare projects related to distribution, fire alarm, and lighting; include detailed project list with application.
  • Experience in Design Build construction, ideally with a completed P3 project cycle.
  • Knowledge of various Low Voltage systems (e.g., Security, IT, Nurse Call) preferred.
  • Experience with other building types (office towers, courthouses, data centres), transit/rail, or multi-discipline projects is an asset.
  • Understanding of relevant building and electrical codes (NBCC, OESC, CSA, NFPA, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Accubid Pro and/or Enterprise is a plus.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and NMS specifications is advantageous.
  • Ability to travel for meetings with architects and consultants.
