Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our team as an Electrical & Control Tech'n/Technologist (Drafting).

Reporting to the First Line Manager, Small Facilities, this position is responsible for drafting to create and maintain electrical drawing documentation, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all systems and equipment, supporting project coordination, and maintaining accurate technical documentation.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Inspect, diagnose, test, troubleshoot, service, maintain, calibrate, and overhaul electrical, electronic, control, instrumentation, and protection equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  2. Install, fabricate, and commission electrical and control systems, draft and prepare technical sketches, CAD drawings, and bills of materials for new installations and modifications.
  3. Prepare and update electrical drawings using CAD technology to reflect modifications in apparatus, equipment, and materials, including changes in location, size, clearances, and support quantities.
  4. Develop and illustrate assemblies for high/low voltage switching structures, grounding, lightning protection, cable routing, duct systems, cable pans, conduit layouts, and building services (power, lighting, receptacles, HVAC, switchboards).
  5. Integrate and coordinate supplementary systems such as telephone, public address, radio communication, LAN cabling, security alarms, and fire detection/control, ensuring compliance with design requirements.
  6. Coordinate, inspect, and audit projects for new system installations or technology upgrades, ensuring quality assurance, contract compliance, and supporting configuration management through plant print audits and walk downs.
  7. Perform equipment measurements and testing to recognized standards, taking preventative or corrective actions as required; participate in studies related to energy production, load, capacity, and demand management; and prepare reports.
  8. Provide technical support, advice, and solutions for daily operations and project work; maintain current knowledge of relevant systems, software, and techniques; and ensure health, safety, and well-being in accordance with standards.
Qualifications
  1. 2-year college diploma in a related field (Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, or Electromechanical Engineering Technology).
  2. Demonstrated experience with utility-specific electrical and control equipment and systems.
  3. Strong understanding of safety procedures, technical standards, and compliance requirements.
  4. Proficiency in technical documentation, drafting, and computer applications related to the role.
