Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering required with membership in Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
  • Experience in turbine-generator instrumentation or control system design is an asset.

Summary of the role

The candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of projects for new hydro power generating units and for the rehabilitation of existing facilities. As a member of the balance of plant engineering team responsible for the unit instrumentation, electrical systems and auxiliary systems, the tasks and responsibilities include:

  1. Review technical specifications for contracts, identify design requirements and develop concepts for solutions and systems;
  2. Supervise designers and actively participate in the preparation and production of engineering documents such as block diagrams, instrument lists, electrical diagrams, instrument installation details, wiring routing drawings, cable lists, P&ID diagram and electrical equipment specifications, while ensuring that engineering concepts and works comply with technical specifications and the requirements of applicable codes and standards;
  3. Coordinate with various engineering teams, suppliers and customers for the integration of applicable equipment systems;
  4. Produce technical specifications for electrical equipment and review associated shop drawings;
  5. Carry out engineering instructions for work or inspection at the plant;
  6. Monitor and update the budget and engineering schedule with the project teams;
  7. Organize and participate in design reviews;
  8. Check and seal the technical documentation produced under his supervision;
  9. Provide technical support for the installation on site;
  10. Participate in the development and maintenance of design tools and rules;
  11. Participate in problem solving and identification of root causes;
  12. Prepare technical documentation for submissions.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s in electrical engineering;
  2. Member of Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (licensing fees paid by ANDRITZ);
  3. Experience in turbine-generator instrumentation or equivalent industry experience (asset);
  4. Experience in general instrumentation and control system design (asset);
  5. Experience or knowledge of hydroelectric or other power generation fields (asset);
  6. Experience or knowledge of hydraulic power and control systems (asset);
  7. Demonstrate ability to analyze and resolve technical problems and to design practical and cost effective solutions;
  8. Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects;
  9. Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, Project, etc.);
  10. Bilingualism: fluent in spoken and written English and French (required);
  11. Good interpersonal skills, collaboration and teamwork (required);
  12. Willing to occasionally travel and perform “on site” field work mainly in Canada without being limited to (mainly for proposal site visits and project site surveys).
