Job summary

Hakai Energy Solutions, a SkyFire Energy Company, seeks an electrical apprentice to gain hands-on field experience across in-town and remote-site projects on Vancouver Island and the BC coast. You will work with a crew, travel in company vehicles, and assist with installation tasks under supervision.

You will develop skills in solar, energy storage, and grid-tied systems while learning safety practices, teamwork, and professional conduct.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year on-site electrical/labor experience.
  • Must be able to travel to remote site locations.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather.
  • Own some tools and PPE as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Mobilize work vehicles, equipment, and job-related materials.
  • Install and terminate solar modules and racking according to layout drawings.
  • Utilize fall protection systems and fall arrest equipment, and set/remove roof anchors.
  • Operate GEDA Ladder lift and elevated work platforms.
  • Lift, move, and handle materials safely and efficiently.
  • Promote safety and contribute to Hakai Energy H&S program.

About the role: This is a diverse electrical apprenticeship role. The role is made up of in-town work, and out of town remote site work. A typical day in the field includes traveling to site in company vehicles and working on an installation team of 3-6 crew. Apprentices work under the guidance of certified Red Seal Electricians with decades of diverse industry experience.

Ability to carry heavy solar panels and other items up to 60lbs throughout the day

Comfortable working on roofs (various slopes), or just a love of heights! - previous roofing experience is considered a strong asset

Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, year-round

Ability to work out of town around Vancouver Island and BC coast (work shifts range from 2 - 20 days, LOA provided)

1+ year on-site experience in electrical/labor related job

Reliable transportation to and from work within Victoria

A valid drivers license, with experience driving trucks & vans

Owns some of their own tools and PPE (power tools/major equipment provided)

Duties include but are not limited to:

Mobilizing work vehicles, equipment, and job-related materials

Installing racking systems and solar modules according to array layout drawings

Utilizing fall protection systems and fall arrest equipment, setting and removing temporary roof anchors

Operating GEDA Ladder lift and elevated work platforms

Lifting, moving, and handling materials

Install and terminate common circuit configurations in residential/multi-unit residential applications

Promote safe working conditions participate in the Hakai Energy H&S program, and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations

Maintain organization and follow directions with efficiency and accuracy

Be open to learning and developing new skills

Other duties as needed/requested
