We are hiring for both Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering Students within our Major Projects team, where you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of Electrical or Instrumentation engineering principals and gain valuable hands-on experience by solving engineering and design problems for our world-class mining operations. You will be assisting Engineering team members in the Major Projects group in either Ore Processing, Tailings, or Froth Treatment. This opportunity will allow you to gain insight into how the Oil and Gas industry operates. At Canadian Natural, “developing people” and “creating value” are part of our mission statement.

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta – Head Office*
  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday - Friday) in Calgary or 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours/days (Monday - Thursday) in Oil Sands
  • Term lengths: 4 or 8 months
  • Term starts: January or May 2026
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes
  • Please Note: Depending on business needs, the work location may change. This would require the successful candidate to work at one of our Oil Sands sites north of Fort McMurray, AB.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work with the instrumentation & controls or electrical discipline lead engineers and teams to support the engineering and design of new projects
  • Utilize your hands-on electrical engineering aptitude and experience to solve engineering and design problems
  • Complete calculations and drawings
  • Become familiar with and utilize instrumentation and control and/or electrical standards and specifications
  • Assist with review of vendor drawings and documents
  • Perform site inspections and information gathering as required
  • Instrumentation opportunity will focus on instrumentation engineering/design and project deliverables
  • Electrical opportunity will focus on electrical engineering/design and project deliverables

What You Bring To The Role

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or within one year of graduation
  • Strong electrical/instrumentation & controls aptitude is an asset
  • Solid computer/IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • This position may require frequent site visits for extended periods of time
  • Must be prepared to work in the field and work shifts (which may include night shifts) and to remain on-call during off hours
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
