Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer to join the Fixed Plant Maintenance team at Eleonore mine site. You will serve as the technical authority for surface electrical/instrumentation installations and support Underground Electrical projects.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings, developing standards, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring regulatory compliance across CSA codes and industry standards. On-site, fly-in/fly-out schedule applies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and OIQ eligibility/active status.
• Minimum of five years in heavy industry or mining operations.
• Experience with instrumentation and process control is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code and CSA standards.
• Valid driver’s license; bilingualism is an asset.

About the Position

Reports to: Electrical and Instrumentation Superintendent

The Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer is a member of the Fixed Plant Maintenance team and reports to the Electrical and Instrumentation Superintendent. The incumbent serves as the technical authority for all surface electrical and instrumentation installations, ensuring their compliance and reliability while providing technical support to the Underground Electrical Engineer.

Description

• Act as the technical reference for electrical and instrumentation systems across all surface facilities (process plant, infrastructure, electrical distribution systems, and service buildings).
• Review and approve surface electrical and instrumentation drawings, schematics, and specifications, and maintain up-to-date technical documentation.
• Develop and maintain site electrical and instrumentation standards, ensure their implementation, and oversee the work of specialized contractors.
• Participate in the design, selection, procurement, installation, and commissioning of equipment (medium- and low-voltage switchgear, variable frequency drives, PLCs, control networks, and process instrumentation).
• Ensure compliance of installations with applicable regulations and standards (Canadian Electrical Code, CSA standards, occupational health and safety regulations, RBQ requirements, Hydro-Québec requirements, and insurance standards), and maintain protection coordination and arc flash studies.
• Contribute to the optimization of preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical and instrumentation systems (thermography, dielectric testing, protection system testing, and instrument calibration).
• Coordinate with the Major Shutdown Planner to schedule electrical maintenance activities during planned shutdowns.
• Support maintenance and operations teams in troubleshooting complex failures and conducting root cause failure analyses.
• Provide technical support to the Underground Electrical Engineer, including alignment of standards, review of common designs, and mutual coverage during absences.
• Act as a project engineer or technical advisor for surface electrical and instrumentation projects.
• Track key performance indicators and participate in the preparation of departmental budgets.
• Understand, comply with, and promote health and safety, environmental, and community relations policies and procedures.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in heavy industry or mining operations.
• Experience in instrumentation and process control is considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and CSA standards.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and SAP (asset).
• Valid driver's license.
• Bilingualism in French and English (asset).
