Job summary

STERIS in Beauport, QC, is seeking an Electrical and Automation Engineer to lead instrumentation and control for washer-disinfectors. You will design, develop, test, document, and continuously improve automated solutions for pharmaceutical and laboratory equipment.

This full-time, hybrid role requires 6–9 years of experience, fluency in French, and English working ability. You will collaborate with multiple disciplines and customers to deliver compliant, high-quality systems.

Qualifications

  • Held a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • 6 to 9 years of experience designing and implementing electrical and automation systems.
  • Proficiency with PLCs and industrial programming languages.
  • Excellent proficiency in French and functional proficiency in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to solve complex problems and manage multiple projects.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and program software for Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs, supporting SCADA integration.
  • Work with electromechanical interfaces and high-power components like heating elements and pumps.
  • Design electrical schematics for control panels meeting customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical and machine safety standards across North America and Europe.
  • Conduct simulations and rigorous testing to validate system performance and reliability.
  • Evaluate customer needs and existing system performance; propose innovative solutions with cost/timeline estimates.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues in electrical, automation, and control systems.
  • Prepare operator/maintenance manuals, technical reports, and design specifications.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend state-of-the-art solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines and customers to ensure seamless integration.

As an Electrical and Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in the instrumentation and control of our pharmaceutical and laboratory washer-disinfectors. You will be at the forefront of innovation, evaluating, designing, developing, testing, and documenting customized solutions tailored to our customers’ needs, while also contributing to the continuous improvement of our existing products. This is a Full-Time/Permanent and Hybrid position in our site in Beauport, QC.
What You'll do as an Electrical and Automation Engineer at STERIS
Programming & Controls
  • Develop and program software forSiemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs, while supporting customers with the integration of their SCADA systems.
  • Work with electromechanical interfaces and high-power components such as heating elements and pumps.
Electrical Design
  • Design electrical schematics for control panels that meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical and machine safety standards acrossNorth America and Europe.
Prototyping & Testing
  • Conduct simulations and rigorous testing to validate system performance and reliability.
Analysis & Optimization
  • Evaluate customer needs and existing system performance.
  • Recommend innovative solutions and provide cost and timeline estimates.
Problem Solving
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to electrical, automation, and control systems.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Prepare operator and maintenance manuals, technical reports, and design specifications.
Technology Monitoring
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend state-of-the-art solutions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with engineers from multiple disciplines as well as customers to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Work with several internal stakeholders, including Procurement, Manufacturing, and Marketing teams.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
  • Hold aBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Member in good standing of theOrdre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • 6 to 9 years of relevant experience in the design and implementation of electrical and automation systems.
  • Proficiency withProgrammable Logic Controllers (PLCs)and industrial programming languages.
  • Excellent proficiency in French and functional proficiency in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to solve complex problems, communicate effectively, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and interact professionally with customers.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.

Assets:

  • Experience withAllen-BradleyandSiemensplatforms is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge ofCAD softwareand simulation tools such asePlanandAutoCADis also an asset.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards and safety regulations (UL, CSA, CE) would be advantageous.
