The Opportunity

As part of the Canada Gas Operations team, you’ll apply your critical thinking and technical skills to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our natural gas compressor stations. Our Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines business includes over 43,000 km of pipeline, 120 compressor stations, and approximately 1,500 measurement stations across Canada.

TC Energy’s Eastern Region seeks an EIC Controls Technician to support the Geraldton, Ontario Area. The technician will provide technical and program management support, focusing on turbo machinery systems.

This position works a modified 9/80 schedule:

  • Week 1: Monday to Thursday, 9 hrs/day, Friday off
  • Week 2: Monday to Thursday, 9 hrs/day, Friday 8 hrs

What You’ll Do

  • Perform installation, testing, repair, operation, and maintenance on compressor station equipment and related facilities
  • Conduct routine and major maintenance on gas turbine packages, compressor units, meter station assets, and auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot, test, and maintain shutdown devices, fire & gas systems, HVAC systems, control valves, PLCs, and control systems
  • Install and configure software in control systems
  • Perform emergency repairs to meet customer and client needs
  • Lead or manage the safe and efficient completion of low/medium complexity projects, coordinating contractor work activities
  • Ensure safety, health, environmental, and risk standards compliance for facilities, personnel, and contractors
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to team members

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of third year in a trades program
  • At least 2 years of Electrical Instrumentation and Control experience
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, drawings, and vendor manuals
  • Mechanical aptitude with planning and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with equipment used in control system maintenance
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman certification in Instrumentation/Electrician or DEC in industrial electronics
  • Hands-on experience with natural gas compressors
  • Experience with CMMS and SAP systems
  • Knowledge of technological advances in the compression field

This position requires candidates to:

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract
  • Complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol tests
  • Travel for temporary assignments, meetings, or training (up to 50% overnight stays)
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide emergency support as needed
