Job summary

Sysco Canada in Richmond, BC is seeking an experienced EHS Manager to develop, implement and oversee safety policies and programs. You will drive compliance with environmental and occupational health standards and foster a world-class safety culture across facilities.

The role requires 7+ years of experience, a Bachelor’s in EHS or risk management, and CRSP certification is highly desirable. You will lead site audits, incident investigations and training initiatives.

Job description

Purpose

This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. This role involves managing compliance with environmental regulations, occupational health standards, and safety protocols to minimize risks and promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Pay Range - $ 80,000 - $ 150, 000

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of and EHS management system.
  • Perform regulatory and best practice-driven hazard/ risk assessments and develop action plans to drive improvement.
  • Develop and present site-specific training programs to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Conduct internal site audits, develop reports, and maintain records.
  • Support external audits and progression of corrective action compliance.
  • Assist in the development of standardized safety systems, polices, training, safety campaigns and programs to prevent injury and ensure compliance with Federal, Provincial and municipal laws.
  • Align with Sysco Corporation to implement the corporate EHS strategy.
  • Driving safety methods to motivate and influence the creation of a world class safety culture.
  • Implement standardized, actionable safety metrics and communication protocol to leadership teams to drive safety improvement.
  • Maintain awareness of potential pending and current legislation that may impact safety standards, programs, and initiatives.
  • Actively drives performance and urgently strives to strategically solve problems and follow projects through to completion, integrated and balanced with the big-picture strategy.
  • Monitor and communicate regulatory changes to the organization, recommending changes to result in compliance and provide technical support when needed.
  • Ensure accident prevention/abatement through detailed injury and accident reporting, loss analysis & trending and investigation compliance.
  • Work with Provincial regulatory officials to resolve any compliance or practice violations.
  • Provide support to customers by ensuring contractor safety, and conducting on-site job hazard assessments.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) comprising Sysco’s Food Safety Program, specific for the assigned role.
  • Assist Food Safety Program Manager in ensuring compliance to Sysco’s Food Safety Program that leads to compliance with third party certification and customer requirements.
  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their supervisor
  • Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.

  • Create synergy and leverage the knowledge, personnel, and resources of the EHS, Transportation, Claims, Operations, Distribution, Facilities and HR Teams.
  • Analyze trends that increase injury and accident frequency/severity; develop and direct the implementation of training programs using the appropriate media.
  • Ability to drive a strong safety philosophy and implement programs designed to effectively change behavior and prevent injury using rational and research-based data driven methods.
Certifications
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.
  • The National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) and other professionally recognized certifications in the safety, risk management related field are highly desirable
  • Six sigma methodology certification and practice are highly valued.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree is strongly required for this position with major course work in EHS, Risk Management or a closely related field

7+ years of experience, of which at least 2 leading a team

Physical Demands
  • Work is primarily indoors (office) but may be required to perform tasks outdoors.
  • May be required to work at heights, restricted or confined spaces.
  • May be required to work in varying extreme temperatures.
